first you should know, bluetooth speakers are not supposed to be audiophile quality. on a scale of 0-10, 10 being perfect audiophile quality, this speaker is maybe a 5. but I'm giving it 5 stars because it is great for what it is. I compared this to similar size sony and bose speakers and the JBL won. the xtreme 4 has the cleanest and most balanced sound. don't expect sub bass but the bass is full and fairly clean. vocals and instruments are clear and separation is decent but again, don't expect audiophile quality or super extended highs. great battery life. lasted 8-10 hours at moderate volume for a pool party. when plugged in it goes on stand by mode so you can connect to it easily without having to turn it all the way on.

By far the best Bluetooth speaker you can get in this size.The sound is amazing. (One would expect nothing less from JBL). Plenty of power for a party outside without having the entire neighborhood hear you. The base transducers on the sides add a significant about of lower frequencies that are hard to believe from such a reasonably sized speaker. The highs are clear and crisp the mids have a bit of that JBL warmth ...amazing all around.Dust and water proof.There is an app to let you run some upgrades and adjust EQ settings.That battery just lasts and lasts and is also replaceable (couple of screws).I had a previous version of this speaker, it had a very annoying and difficult to open charger port cover.This one eliminates both the cover and the proprietary charger. The speaker can now be charged via USB-C which automatically detects presence of water. The cover is no longer needed.There is even a bottle opener on the shoulder strap to make this already speaker even more practical and perfect.

It has the BASS !!It has the POWER !!The JBL app makes things better with the EQ thingy on it.Can also use multiple speakers as well.We are a "outside" family. We need our music. The Xtreme 4 is now a legit family member now. As you can see, JBL runs this household. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you get yo a*$ up and grab this speaker. The power supply makes this WORTH the price. I didn’t get paid for this review. I’m just a fan of JBL speakers and decided to replace the smaller one I left behind on a beach trip.I was debating on going all out on the large one that looks like a suitcase. But realistically this one is the way to go. I can fit in a suitcase, it’s big enough to remember and hopefully not leave behind again and the sound output is nice. The bass even packs a punch given its size. Highly recommend for pool, gym, beach or camping.

The JBL Xtreme 4 has blown me away. It’s much louder than my previous speaker, and the sound quality is incredible. I’ve taken it jogging, river rafting, and even on vacation. It handled mud, sand, and being fully submerged in water for 15–20 minutes — and still worked perfectly afterward. The battery life also really impressed me; even at full volume, it lasted a solid 6 hours in the sun and water. These speakers work exceptionally well. I bought two so that I could put one on deck and one on patio area. The stereo mode works great as well as the Aura mode. Great bass and sound. App works well with no connectivity issues. I will buy a couple more to round out our deck area and patio. Highly recommend these for beach and parties.

I'm using two X4's as a stereo pair.The OS X stereo set-up is relatively straightforward and solid. Once you've paired the two speakers (using the "Portable" app on your phone), the configuration is remembered, so no need to repeat the process; you simply connect ONE of the X4's, and the second speaker will connect automatically in stereo. Your keypad volume controls work, unlike with an aggregate device. Finally.I should also point out that when two X4's are used as a stereo pair, JBL's in-app equalizer is disabled. This is a bummer, because without it, the out-of-the-box bass is lacking. As a workaround on my laptop, I use eqMac — and it makes a >>remarkable<< difference. (It's free and it works very well.) If you're playing stereo through an iPhone, you face the same issue, but eqMac only works with OS X. For now I'm using Spotify's EQ, although I may end up installing a separate EQ app.Happy to see the replaceable battery.
