Miserable Product
I hate nest thermostats. If you want to constantly be hot inside your own home than this product is for you. The only way this thing saves you any money on your electric bill is by tricking you into dealing with warmer temps in your home and pretending to “learn” your schedule. I have 2 different nest thermostats in my home since I have two ac units on opposite sides of the house and both will let the temp rise up to 2 degrees above my set temp and hover there without kicking the ac on. This mostly happens at night and leads me to wake up wondering why it’s hotter just to find out the nest is being a POS. Weirdly I haven’t saved any significant money on my electric bill so I’m not even sure if it’s accurately displaying the temp. Nest considers 76 degrees and higher to be “eco friendly” so it’s constantly trying to raise the temp to be eco and when you lower the temp from 76 a pop up appears asking if you’re sure you want to change the temp and that it’ll readjust back to eco temps in 2 hours. Setting up a schedule in the app is a joke, while at work the temp inside is set to 75, somehow it lets itself creep up to 77 (once it was at 78) and still no ac had kicked on so getting home just to have to suffer this Florida heat in my home for the first hour or so is bs considering they aren’t cheap products. The only nice this is being able to adjust the temp from your phone but you’ll really rely on that feature in the middle of the night when you wake up sweating cause I’ve found 2 degrees is the difference between comfort and wanting to rip it off the wall. Now I have to adjust the temp down more and deal with the ac constantly blowing but I’d rather be cold than hot and it seems those are my options with these garbage thermostats.

If You have to upgrade your nest. You might have to spend a lot for the electric to run it.
I needed to replace my original nest. But I had to spend quite a bit to run electric to the current models like this one that has a downgraded battery, compared to the original that ran great without the separate electric line ,hundreds of dollars to keep going with the same product. tried changing the battery and if you don’t disassemble the original a certain way, it’s impossible to put it back together so you’re kind of backed into a corner and getting a new one which I didn’t mind doing but running the electric was over $500 because they cheaped out by changing the battery and if you don’t disassemble the original a certain way, it’s impossible to put it back together so you’re kind of backed into a corner and getting a new one which I didn’t mind doing but running the electric was over $500 because they cheaped . out on the battery

Don't Do It!!!!
Full disclosure: this item was "reconditioned." I had to move my existing and outdated thermostat and it made sense to buy a thermostat that was roughly the same generation in age as my HVAC system. I had to have an HVAC company do the wiring through the basement and up through a different interior wall. They hooked this Nest unit up and it would not find any wi-fi. After repeated attempts, it was concluded the Nest was defective. Because a winter storm was approaching, the only alternative I had was to purchase a $550 thermostat off the techs truck. Amazon's reconditioned warranty isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Don't buy that crap.

Great product, but the refurb takes extra steps to set up.
I bought this for the price, it was a refurb but that was the deal.It arrived in a new box, clean with all the parts. It was physically installed perfectly with no problems. However, it would not connect to the app and it took me a week to figure it out. I would scan the QR code and nothing would happen, then I would type in the 6-digit code, and still nothing. Then I did the factory reset a few times and still nothing. This is what I did to make it work on the app.1) Install the t-stat and verify it works as a standalone t-stat.2) DL the app and set up your account, then go to home.nest.com and log into your account.3) On the T-stat go to settings and reset to the factory defaults.4) On the T-stat go to settings and reset the WWN connection. You might think this redundant after the factory default reset but do it anyway.5) After the WWN reset it will give you a seven-digit entry key, for example, 123-ABCD, Write this down or take a pic. (Note the app will only let you type in a six-digit code, so you have to go to the website to enter the longer key.6) Go to settings and under connection put in your network and password and make sure the t-stat is connected to the internet.7) Go to the home.nest.com website, and after you are logged in look for an “add product (PLUS)”, click it, and follow the prompts. You will get to a screen that wants the seven-digit key, type that in without the dash.8) Then it will add the t-stat to your app for you.
