Very impressed, makes a hotel room much more secure
Having used this on a recent trip where I was concerned about hotel security (work booked the hotel, not me.....) The hotel was extremely warm with no fan or air con (available from the hotel at a ridiculous price!) There were plenty of windows at ground level, but these were sliding windows with no locking mechanism - so they were either open or closed! I used this locking bar to prop the window open so I got some fresh air at night. I know this is supposed to be for patio doors, but it worked just as well diagonally across the window (it wouldn't fit horizontally - so make sure you have a fiddle)The bar appears to be made of strong steel with no flex whatsoever. If you have this securing a door or a window, no one is coming into your room! The downside is, this makes it fairly heavy if you are trying to pack this to take on a plane (about 1.5kgs!). I normally travel light so for me it's not a problem, but you might want to make some room if you plan on taking this. The other thing to consider is the length. This fitted easily into a normal size suitcase, but if you have a small case, then it might not fit.I did NOT receive this at a discount, I bought this like a normal person. Good for patio doors
Got two of these for my sliding patio doors after someone on street had their house broken into by burglars forcing sliding patio door (easiest and most common way to get into a house).Could have used a bit of wood in the gap in the door, but these are a lot neater and I have them installed right at the top of the door and they kind of blend in.Basically you slide it out to the required length, then insert a pin through the holes to hold it in position and wedge it in the door (the end of the sliding door to the frame). The holes are spaced at about 2cm intervals so you can adjust it to just the correct size- unless your door is very narrow- see below. This makes it virtually impossible to force the door open or slide it until the device is removed. The device is sturdy silver painted metal. It also comes with an attachment which means you can secure a normal inwards opening door. One problem I found was that the holes in the device, which allow it to be secured open at varying lengths, do not come far enough down it. They should come right to the bottom, but they stop about three quarters of the way down. One of my patio doors is fairly narrow. As luck would have it there is one solitary hole much further down after the others stop which just happened to match the width of my small patio door- otherwise I would not have been able to use it on the smaller door. So really they should make it with the holes all the way down to make it fully adjustable for smaller doors.

Burglar Proof
Bought because we live in a burglary hot-spot. Usually the burglar months are June to August when people leave windows open, however, two months back, I fell asleep on the sofa only to wake up at 3am to see a man looking at me through the back door window. He was trying to get in through the door and wouldn't leave despite me having gone up to the door to tell him the police were coming. When the police turned up, he walked straight in through my unlocked front door around 10 mins later to be greeted by us all in the living room. Muppet. So, in light of all that I took extra precautions on top of door locks, since the burglars seem to be extra keen. It does what it says it's supposed to do. I tried to force the unlocked door open and I couldn't, and neither could any man. It doesn't look like it could be that strong and I was expecting it to be heavier. It will work, and if you lock the door anyway, and use this as an extra precaution, you really have nothing to fear.

It works for me ! They work for me ! (I got two.)
I wasn’t sure about this it decided to gamble as it seemed a simple device that I could deal with easily and if it didn’t work it wouldn’t break the bank. So the first one arrives and I find it’s adjustable height wise in exactly the same way as a walking stick and so I adjust it to the right length, pop it under the door handle and off we go. I tried it with the front door and same thing so I got its’ twin. One caveat...I don’t know how it well it works on a wood or tiled etc floor. I have the foot of my two wedged into the doormat wells at both doors and not on the floor or floor covering. It is on a swivel so it can adjust angles but how much it would stay put on the level I don’t know. As it is, my neighbours were treated to watching me trying to break into my own house to check that it worked- (it’s ok, they already think I’m weird.) And it does.Quick edit. 5 years later and still going strong. I’ve never had a moments problem with them so still whole heartedly recommend. (With the caveat of foot placement)

Useful way to secure UK patio doors
In the UK - it is typical for the opening patio door to slide on the outside which makes them vulnerable and you cannot use a piece of wood or alternative latch to prevent from opening. This is a handy way to provide additional security. Strong, easy to install and take off when necessary. The second one I have bought.

Very strong door lock - although useless for door knobs and for locking from the outside
A very strong method of locking a door from the inside. Will stop an elephant. The door frame will give out before the security bar does. Not the most portable option. Instead, get a Travel/Portable Door Lock. Not as study but easy to carry when you travel. Also useless from the outside. If you need to lock the door whilst you go out, you need something else entirely. But for adding some security to an indoor door with no lock whilst you're inside it's good. Great for adding some security when you're not able to install a permanent lock. Easy to fit once height-adjusted. Just slide it under the handle each time you enter the room.Sadly there's not many non-permanent locks on the market for locking a door from the outside.
