I teach geometry. I HATE most compasses. The all metal cheap ones are cheap and loosen up so fast they are worthless. The plastic ones have trouble holding the pencil and flex too much. The good drafting styles use special leads that are a pain to keep sharp.THESE and PERFECT. The construction is solid, the pencil is held well, they don't flex, they stay tight, and they just work. These are now what we buy for the department to use for class sets. No others come close, especially for the price. I just wish they were easier to find.

I needed a bunch of low cost, but high quality compasses to withstand a bunch of middle school students using. These were exactly what I needed. They worked well and never loosened up while being used. Much higher quality than other counterparts.

I use it and it is not a problem, just not remarkably wonderful sound. Certainly good enough for what I use it for, and I am not disappointed by any means. I would still order it if I had to do it again.

I have had these compasses for a couple of years to use in my classroom. They are very sturdy and easy to use. I can tighten them if they ever get loose (not often needed). Students new to construction, find them very easy to use and prefer to use them over the other types of compasses. Like I said, I have had them for several years with moderate use. I have only lost a couple to theft and carelessness (a student sat on one of them while it was in their bag). I would highly recommend these and I intend to get a few more.

I have been searching for a compass that my students do not break quickly, but also allows them to be precise and neat. I think I have found it with this compass. The screw type pencil holder allows every pencil to be easily put in, and there is no worries about the pencil slipping ( as other systems may do). The compass is well constructed, and holds in position. It is just a well made , inexpensive compass. A good deal and will remove many frustrations that using a compass can give students.

What I received is NOT what is pictured. I had a set like the ones pictured and like them because they can be tightened when they get loose with use. The ones I received also have a screw which allows tightening, however, there is a plastic casing which might have to be broken in the process of tightening. I know because one in the set arrived loose and I had to work on it to make it usable. I appreciate that they are still metal, standing up to student use, and possible to tighten.

They don't look all that impressive, but these are quite good compasses. They don't stay perfectly locked in place if you push down too hard, so I don't push too hard. The clamp that secures the pencil works well and allows for easy adjustment. Much better than the fancier inexpensive screw-type with raw graphite. I lend these to students and I get them back without any problems. They are all still in service after a few months of use.

I bought these for classroom use a week ago. They are impressive so far. They are made of metal and come with golf pencils for immediate use. There is a screw for pencil adjustment and/or replacement. The compass seems to hold its position well.At about $2/compass, this seems like a square deal. They are valuable enough for me to count daily, but not so expensive that I will go crazy when they start to walk away slowly.
