Great book
really great, easy read and well written enough to really convey the message of stoicism.

Interesting Book
I agree with the main ideas, but some of the suggestions are just not practical. At only 120 pages, it is over priced.

Truly worth reading
I thought buddhist thought was all I needed til I read this. The stoic philosophy has a lot to offer us as individual people trying to figure out a path in life that has some meaning to us. Jason Hemlock archives this by providing meaningful, easy to follow guidelines. I will be re-reading this again to absorb the principles of stoicism to apply to my lifestyle.

Self-Help from thee past for today
Today's society requires a new approach to expand and increase our well-being and development. However, if you search for methods used by humanity during these troubled times, society scours the past for assistance. Stoics learn from the past by living in the present to build a better future. In fact, people desire this as they move through life and generations to come. Stoicism provides the knowledge from our ancestors for humanity to build its foundation of existence through continued development by always trying to do better. However, unlike today's political climate where too much emphasis is placed upon party ideology, Stoicism requires analysis on what is best for the state, country, and world and not simply one's ideology.Stoicism: How to use Stoic Philosophy to find inner peace and happiness provides a useful set of activities to guide you on a new path of development. Whereupon you seek to question the behaviors you have that occur without your direct knowledge. In essence, wake up from your dream state and experience life by being present. If you take all the key information from self-help books you would be left with this book. To sum it up, question, observe, react, take action, and change although one has to find in which order to take as each event, moment, or situation has different pathways based on experience.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

It wasn't bad, but it was a bit weak
I bought this book as a quick intro before I dive further into the ideas of stoicism. It worked Ok for that, but it is a quick and light read. Far too light; I wanted more meat. It really felt like a report on stoicism for a class that someone expanded and tried to turn into a self help book. It felt too light for the price paid. The text was big an overly spaced, it could have been printed with a third fewer pages.Jason looks to offer ways of exercising the stoic lessons. It isn't bad, but It seemed basic. My wife read it as well and we had chuckles at the times the author contradicted himself without explanation, or just skimmed the surface on an idea that could have been better investigated and explained with just a bit more text.As an intro to Stoicism it worked for its purpose, but I could have skipped it and be more than fine. I am sure there must be better intro books out there. This book should have been half it's price at least in paperback. The re-readability is pretty low.

A book on inner happiness
A self-help book that talks about using stoic philosophy to help you achieve internal peace. This book covers the basics of stoicism and simplifies the complexities that come with it so that random Joes can understand it easily. I'm generally not a fan of philosophy-oriented books but the mention in the synopsis of simplification made me laugh. It brought up a memory from a making-of documentary of the Matrix where Lawrence Fishburne was the only one who made sense of the philosophical texts the cast had to read. I digress, this is not going to appeal to everyone but it's definitely worth a look - especially if you're in need of help with de-stressing yourself. Check this one out when you get the chance.
