Q: Is it too late to put out a nesting box now

Yes no birds are nesting now. You could put boxes out the birds might roost in them. I put my nesting material out in late March in empty fat ball containers on tree branches and the birds pull it out and make nests wherever. I hope that was useful.

Q: Is it washed or natural as it's crafted?

It is completely natural, but it is washed so that there are no mites or mud. In short it is natural, but has been cleaned.

Q: Is this suitable for a budgie who has started laying eggs

No not really, budgies just need wood shavings, the wool would rap wrap around there feet. They dont use a material as a rule.

Q: Confused as to whether this is good or very bad. The last thing I want to do is damage wild birds. Are the one star reviews correct?

I didn’t find any of our birds got tangled in it. Though the strings of it are very long, ended up cutting it into smaller pieces before putting it out in my fat ball feeders. Some smaller birds (eg blue tits) did have a bit of a struggle pulling it out. But didn’t stop them coming back for more. I still have quite a lot and will be using again next year. It does need chopping up into smaller chunks though. Hope this is helpful for you.
