Don't let the Metabo name throw you, this is a genuine Hitachi UC 18YG L2 OEM charger. Hitachi began changing the venerable Hitachi Power Tool (HPT) name in 2018 to the German commercial tool name "Metabo" that the Hitachi parent corporation (Koki Holdings, Inc.) also owns. HItachi power tools are now labeled Metabo tools are now labeled "Metabo HPT" the HPT stands for Hitachi Power Tools.Going with a slightly cheaper, compatible, aftermarket charger with a lesser warranty if any, didn't make sense with the small price difference. Our old 18v Hitachi cordless tool set in original carry bag, was still going strong, and we didn't want to retire/discard it. This brand new charger immediately and quickly charged three older HItachi BCL 1815 battery packs, after our old UC 18YG L2 charger failed.Operation Note - Solid red LED when battery has been inserted, means it's charging, fast flashing red LED means it's fully charged and can be removed. Slow flashing red LED when inserted means battery is too hot to charge, and needs to cool down first. Fast Amazon Prime shipping was an appreciated plus.

I got this charger as a replacement for my 15 year old original Hitachi charger that finally gave up the ghost. I found out that Metabo either absorbed Hitachi or bought them out and changed the name, but the replacement charger looked exactly like my old on, only black instead of green. It's made in China but seems to be a good, well made charger. I charged all 3 of my batteries quickly, about 40 minutes for each one and they were well drained. Totally satisfied with it.

This product did not work and I did not become aware of it until I tried to charge two new batteries.I ordered this product thinking my old one no longer worked since it was not charging my batteries. When it came in I tried charging my batteries and they did not charge. I thought my batteries were the ones that did not work so I did not order new ones until this year. When my new batteries came in, I tried charging them but they did not charge. My new battery charger that I had ordered turned out was the one that did not work from the time I received it Because I waited this long to order my new batteries, the time to return the Battery Charger had passed. Bummer. Now I have to order a new Battery Charger again. Make sure this Battery Charger works when you receive it. I will not order this product again.

I was looking to replace my battery charger for my Hitachi 14.4v drill/flashlight combo, which I purchased more than 20 years ago.When I found this item, I was unsure it would work for my batteries. They fit !!! And charged !!!Now, I have my favorite drill again 👍
