Great For Beginners
I enjoyed reading Knitting Stitches: Learn How to Knit Stitches. The book opens with an introduction and fun facts about knitting which, I always find interesting. As a new knitter pictures are extremely important so, I can see what yarn, needles and, stitches I will be using. Throughout the book there are pictures associated with everything and I love the clear visuals. Knitting Stitches also gives you a chart to determine the needle size and yarn weight. Then the book moves on and explains in detail which needles to choose for when you are a beginner and, there are videos to watch on needle size. It can get confusing to walk into A.C. Moore or Michael's and try to figure out which needle is right for me but, now I don’t have to guess. Each page is easy to read and brings you through how to measure a gauge, read a pattern, hold your needles and, step by step instructions for each stitch. There are also videos provided throughout so if you are a visual person like me you can watch how to hold your needles or, how to make the stitch. The little dictionary provided of what the knitting abbreviations mean was so helpful; when I was going through the book all I had to do was reference it. It is exciting that the book shows how to make fun things like a bag or, an advanced item like, a snowy owl. I recommend Knitting Stitches: Learn How to Knit Stitches if you are a new knitter who enjoys having tons of visuals and learns from step by step instructions.

Great reference book!
I have been out of the knitting world for 50 yrs and wanted to pick it up again. This is a great book for that! It has all the basics and then some that a beginner would want and more to get restarted! Will keep on Kindle so I can reference any time. Love, love ,love it!

A great place to start
I loved reading Knitting Stitches. One of my only complaints was that it wasn't long enough. That is not to say the book isn't detailed, it is, but I loved the writing style so much I wanted more. Brown goes through every step with the perfect amount of detail, teaching you enough to get started but leaving you curious for more. One of my favorite part of the book was the part about the history of knitting. It is pretty irrelevant for most people but as a history nerd it was a great start to a great book.I have to confess, I am not technically a beginner when it comes to knitting. I learned to knit left handed when I was fairly young. I am trying to teach myself how to knit the "right" way and this book is perfect for both beginners and people who are trying to dust off their old knitting skills. Brown also includes video links in the book, leading to a multimedia experience more e-writers should utilize.Overall, I totally recommend this book for anyone who wants to get into the fun craft of knitting.

Disappointing
I bought this book because I want to learn to knit- and I wanted a book with good pictures to avoid having to look at my computer screen. This book does seem to have a lot of info and many pictures- but I am disappointed in the quality of many of the pictures- many of them aren't crisp and clear- almost like they are pictures of a computer screen. So- this may be helpful, but I don't have great hopes for it to be my go to resource to learn to knit!

Well done - combines clear instructions and links to YouTube videos
This book is written by a British knitter. Even though Europe uses the metric system, UK continues to use imperial system past the time they were supposed to stop using it, so the measurements are given in inches which makes this book work for American knitters. The needle sizes are given in a table which includes a column for US sizes. The history portion is about UK knitters but that's okay. The author combines text with illustrations from YouTube videos by various knitters around the world. I thought it was a very effective way to present information. It is highly unlikely that I would have found all these great videos on my own.The book has lots of diagrams, photos, and clear instructions. I also liked a section dedicated to common mistakes and how to fix them. Well done!Ali Julia review

Shows You More Than Just Stitches!
Knitting Stitches is much more than showing knitting stitches. This book gives you the beginner knowledge and beyond. I crochet but was looking for knitting stitches to learn as I have received knitting needles for a Secret Santa gift. I am learning these stitches pretty well so far, but it's only been a few days. The author gives you all you need to know in the beginnings of the book, everything from what type of needle to buy or what is best for who. Along with yarn choosing, the book gave needle sizes, conversions, links to videos, anything I needed to get started and keep from getting disappointed. The pictures in Knitting Stitches is good for people who need a visual to get work done for knitting. The book reads well, as there were no editing or grammatical errors (thank goodness) that we sometimes see with "hobby" books. All in all, I will keep this on my device for my Kindle and nearby when I am knitting. Thank you Emma Brown. I need all the help I can get!

Poor quality - Don't buy this book
The photographs in this book are horrible - fuzzy, not clear - some you can't even see what the person is doing with the yarn and needles. Very disappointed.

Ok book
It is an ok book. I am trying to learn how to knit. I am a visual person. The pictures are blurry and would be better in color. The introduction however is good so I will use it for that with a combination of others to help me understand what is going on.

Much better than expected
I was hesitant to buy this book upon looking at the other reviews at first. However, I’m so glad I decided to give it a try.I found it very useful for a beginner like me. Not only it focuses on different knitting stitches, but how to start knitting in general. The book shortlists all of the tools and materials needed to begin a knitting project, explains the pattern basics; most importantly, it provides instructions on reading any knitting pattern. FAQ at the end of the book is very useful as it covered most of the questions I had.I am really hoping to get started on more advanced knitting patterns soon with the help of this guide. Thank you for a great guide on knitting for beginners, Emma Brown

Not impressed
Bought knitting for beginners and this one only to find out they are basically the same! Mistakes in terms that even I, the beginner, picked up on
