Great box with Iffy management software for Macintosh.
This is great value. As per other reviews here, I am astounded at the build quality and inclusions with this product. It comes with a couple of dozen little drive screws, which you would only need if you are installing 2.5 inch drives. And it comes with cables for both eSATA and USB 3.0, and they are not the usual short cables that come with drives - there is a little room to play here. I did not measure them but they are good. The POWER cord is only a couple of feet long, but it is a standard 3-prong IEC power cable! You can get one cheap anyplace you are, if you don't already have a couple of spares lying around. The RAID app is fun! I spent the day changing modes and testing speed. I've had RAID appliances before, but I'd never ever built a RAID, and it was pretty easy with the included software. I have to not that I used the software to set up my drives in it. I had an old Promise 6400 4-Bay enclosure from 2009 I think, and bay 4 was crapping out, so I took a chance on this Syba box to replace the failing Promise. I had the most recent 4x 5TB hard drives from that box, and a fifth 5TB drive I had as a spare, so in they went, and it's running fine on my Mac Mini 2012 running El Capitan. I am going in through eSATA into a Thunderbolt-to-eSATA dongle I had used with the Promise RAID. I'm currently running in RAID5. In every mode I was getting about 200MB/s up and down from this thing. It's a great box so far. If anything changes I will update this here review. Have a great day everyone!Update: a week into running this. The unit is fine, but the HW RAID Manager software for Mac now cannot see the enclosure, although the RAID volume does still mount perfectly on my desktop. I switched from eSATA to the USB connection to see if it helps, but it didn't change anything. I deleted the software management app as well as all of it's prefs and did a clean reinstall, and it still doesn't see the unit. It turned out that if I launch the application from my DOCK it won't see the drives, but if I launch the application from inside the Applications Folder the app operates correctly!! So do it that way, and all will be fine. The RAID Hardware is exceptionally well constructed, accessible, and runs very cool temperature-wise. I'm loving this thing!Update 2025: Still running great 5 years later. I've since bought 2 more of these. Love em so much!

Great Unit Works Right Out of the Box
Purchased this to make use of all my old HDDs from various PC builds over the years. It works right out of the box and is powered to allow for all the drives to work via USB. Each drive bay can be individually turned on or off and they are hot-swappable. Well designed and sturdy, I am very happy with the unit. Oh and note the drives snap right into their carriers unless 3.5" which need to be screwed in place (with the provided screws and screwdriver) There are no instructions provided but I am guessing if you are the kind of person who would make use of this, you don't need any. :)

Works great, plan on buying a better cable for USB 3.2
I'm using this to pass through disks to a VM in a Proxmox home lab. I reduced my rating by 1 star because although I ordered the more expensive 8-bay USB 3.2 model the included USB cables (C to A and C to C) do not work with USB 3.2. I had to order a separate $30 Anker cable certified rated for 3.2 after which it works perfectly. Easy to use, fast, drives are recognized and work without issue, construction is solid, and I like that each bay is powered independently for easy and clean drive swaps.Overall pleased.

It works but its functionality is overshadowed by how cheaply made this product is.
Pros:It functions Transfer and Reads data seemingly without a hitchWD Red Pro 14 Tab copy speeds reached as high as 227.1 MB/s, always seemed to average around 200 MB/s thoughWD White Label Drives (Shucked EasyStores and Elements) never copied faster than 151 MB/sSeagate Barracudas and other 5400 RPM drives never seem to beat 140 MB/sIt works and functions well enough if you are not picky and are simply using as a long term home for your drivesEasy to setup if you don’t overthink itThe fan keeps the drives cool, the aforementioned WD Red never reached over 40°C not even once, even during sustained writes of 12 hours+. The other drives I mentioned never got hotter than 45°CEjecting the drives from Windows and on my Nvidia shield always worked flawlessly, both in function and reflected in the S.M.A.R.T. DataCons:I have never seen a multi bay enclosure made with cheaper materialsI never trusted this enclosure to house more than two drives at a time, call me over cautious but I don't see this enclosure being able to handle four drives simultaneously and live to tell about it. Even higher end JBOD and RAID enclosures that are over $300 struggle at handling 4 drives at onceThis enclosure isn't hot swappable, Meaning if you add or remove a drive while other drives are running every priorly installed drive will Abort all operations and essentially eject and have to spin-up again whenever you add or remove a drive from the enclosureThe BIGGEST issue with this enclosure is how cheaply made the trays are and how flawed of a system it is: it does not give you the option to mount your drives to the trays with screws and you are forced to use the extremely cheap and slightly undersized pegs attached to the plates that are supposed to fasten the tray to the drive which are made out of extremely cheap/flimsy plastic and you literally have to bend them and forcibly snap them off abruptly in-order to properly install each new drive to the enclosure and each time you do this the plates get looser and looser and pretty soon your drive will not be mounted properly at all. It does not help that there are no screw holes on the bottom of the trays for 3.5 inch drives, Otherwise this problem would honestly probably be O.K.all in all this enclosure is fine if you're just going to be installing and swapping drives sporadically and pretty much only using it to turn a few 3.5 inch drives into external drives. If you are thinking of buying this enclosure for the purpose of using it with several different drives - which would require a lot of swapping - my advice is: Absolutely do not buy this enclosure. Go with a terramaster d4-300 instead. It is worth the extra $53 dollars and It's trays are practically flawless.

Works like it should and fits all my needs!
This hard drive bay is a space saver and less cords to deal with! Yeah the trays are a little cheap and flimsy, but if you are careful the hard drives slight in easily. I can have up to 4 hard drives on at a time and that is pretty much perfect for me! All in all a great product and I have mostly 4tb hard drives installed in it. Would highly recommend!
