Great Product
Initial Review, 15 May 2023:I installed this product on the 13th of May 2023. I have a two-wire, heat-only system, white (W1) and red (Rh). Prior to purchasing this product I read reviews and searched online for the best smart thermostat for a two-wire system. The Google Nest Thermostat was at the top of every search. Many reviews on Amazon state that this thermostat, if in a two-wire system, will only charge and get power while the furnace is operating. I found this to be inaccurate information. I found that, once connected, the two wires will keep the thermostat powered and the battery charged (I think it is really only one of the two wires keeping the system charged but ask an HVAC tech if you want to know). It seems that the purpose of the battery is in the case of power loss to your home. In this instance, the battery will provide power to the thermostat for a period of time. I am not a HVAC tech; if you want to know how this actually works, find an HVAC tech to provide accurate information.I did have an issue the first day. I set the thermostat up (connected to the two-wire heat-only system and set-up with the app) and everything worked great. Maybe an hour later, the thermostat would not connect to WIFI or the phone app. I found, in the thermostat, that the cause was a low battery. I took the thermostat off of the wall twice and charged it with the charging port. This worked, only temporarily. When I went to bed the night of install, the thermostat was connected to the app and working well. When I woke up in the morning, the thermostat was no longer connected to the phone due to low battery. This time, I did not take the thermostat off of the wall to charge. Instead I just let it remain disconnected. At some point in the afternoon, the thermostat connected to the app and seems to have plenty of power now. I am unsure of what caused the issue but it did work itself out (for now). I'll update after a few months of use or if I have issues before then.Pros:-Easy set-up (I mean this! Set-up could not have been easier. Impressive.)-Nice thermostat interface-Nice phone app interface-Great sensors (the nest has a motion sensor, this allows the thermostat to light up when you walk by to show you the current temperature or open the adjust options if you stand in front of the thermostat)-I dropped this thing and it still works great! Very durable.Cons:-The schedule in the Nest app could have more features and be easier to use-I have Amazon smart-home devices (Alexa) rather than Google. I feel that this thermostat does not integrate well with the Amazon products. You can change the temperature with the Amazon Echo devices. However, I wanted to use this as a temperature sensor for a routine (if temperature is this then run that routine). Unfortunately, the Echo will not recognize this thermostat in the routines to begin the routine. You can adjust the thermostat with a routine though. I would say this is an issue with the Amazon Echo and how Amazon has their routines set-up (this is not an issue with the Nest Thermostat).

Great upgrade to a smart home if you don't have a C wire!
Replaced my old mercury switch from the 60s with this and it has been great! Only needs 2 wires no C wire required. Google Customer Service helped me pick which thermostat would work with my Co-Op and this one is what they suggested. Only thing bad is linking it to Alexa is kinda of annoying. You need 2 Google Apps to link this. You first need the Nest App cause that is the only app that will link to this model. Then you need to link your Nest account with your Google Home app because they don't support Nest anymore, BUT still require Nest for Google home to communicate with the device. Only then can you use Google Home to link this to Alexa. One note with Alexa be sure to say, "Turn Off [room name]" if you have Smart Lights in the same room as the Thermostat. If you say "[room] off" Alexa thinks you are talking about the Thermostat and turns it off instead of the lights. Also one final note if you are going to use the feature where the Thermostat lowers the temp cause no one is in the house, be sure to link everyone's phone to your Nest and Home account. When we first set it up, only my phone was connected to the Nest and Home app and when I left for work my Girlfriend was unable to get the Thermostat to stay at temp cause it was convinced no one was in the house and wouldn't keep the heat on. Even if she told Alexa to turn it on, the Nest and Home app override Alexa's command cause it didn't detect my phone on the network. Aside from these bugs the Thermostat has been a great improvement to our home heating, we set a routine for the heat and just enjoy as the device handles the rest. A must have for any Home looking to save money on heat or to simply upgrade their home to a smart home!Only reason I would suggest not getting this device is if you have a C wire, if you do get a newer model so you only need the Google Home app to connect it.

we love the remote monitoring and control
we love nest products, this thermostat allows us to monitor our vacation home and adjust the temperature as we see fit remotely. besides setting up a temperature schedule, if we come home early we can make an adjustment so the house temperature is ready for us.

Never worked but I waited to long to troubleshoot
I bought this second thermostat for my home second story furnace. The first story thermostat is also a google Nest which I was successful with installing, so I planned to get another so they could both be on the app. I bought sensors for the bedrooms so the doors could be shut and the thermostat in the hall would not be the temperature target. Just after I bought it life got insanely tragic and busy and it was more than a month before I started troubleshooting the thermostat. I kept trying to get it to work, thinking I was doing something wrong. I re-wired and brought it to the wifi router, got a wifi booster to get a stronger signal, etc... Ultimately it was abundantly obvious that the device does not go online. I can set a program but my life is not on a predictable schedule and the place I live is cool year-round (Northern and Coastal). The cost of the device was high. Now my two thermostats don't communicate which results in the first floor frequently running to heat both floors (overworking my furnace) or the second floor being turned on to warm cold bedrooms but never shutting off and overheating the bedrooms.I wish I never bought this device. My heat bill is higher than ever in this 120 year old house. This was supposed to be part of my energy saving endeavors but it backfired. But of course it was far too late to return it by the time I found out it would never work. What a nightmare. I should have bought it when I had the hours to put in to troubleshooting.
