Genuine Hayward part. Fits perfectly.
I first tried replacing the 3 O rings on this valve but they made the valve really tight and hard to turn. Plus, there’s a tiny o ring in the stem which is impossible to remove. Anyway, the valve still leaked so I bought this replacement part. Boy, I am glad I did. Valve fit perfectly and turns easily. No leaks. Very easy to replace. Just remove the locking nut and jiggle and pull up to remove old valve. Insert new valve, be sure to line up the notch. Very satisfied!!!Update. 5 months later the valve is now leaking. Doesn’t leak alot but enough so that I need to fix. Contacted Hayward. Lets see what happens.Latest update on 2/05/2023 - Hayward sent me a new part at no cost. This one is working well. The valve also turns alot easier than previous. Lets see long is last. Thank you Hayward for standing behind your product.

Perfect replacement
I had replaced the o-rings on my original piston a few years ago, but there's a tiny one inside that continued to allow a leak no matter how carefully I reassembled it. Finally broke down and purchased this replacement piston. It came pre-lubed, so installation was clean as well as quick. No leaks now. 5 stars for quality, but 3 stars for Hayward pricing. No escaping the high costs of their replacement parts.

Yes, 5 Stars BUT... READ THIS BEFORE BUYING!
FIRST: If your handle came off because that little metal pin broke, then you can get a replacement pin - the pool stores carry that specific one; that's a LOT cheaper than replacing the entire assembly. If you cannot get the plunger out because it is stuck, then I recommend disconnecting the pool filter and dribbling some dish soap onto the valves (This was suggested to me by a local pool company). Let it sit for at least half an hour - try again and dribble a little more. The reason you disconnect the filter is because you don't want the dish soap in your filter/pool. Eventually, if it (the valve assembly) still does not come out, then you will (probably) have to drill it out. I bought a couple 12" bits for that purpose and broke through enough of the top portion of the valve to be able to grab the top O-ring with needle nose pliers and extricate it (e.g. yank it out). CAUTION: Do not drill to the very edge because if you damage those pipes that the valves sit in, you have created an additional plumbing problem that will cost you even more money and time. My drilling had done so much damage to the top valve that the increase in play enabled the dish soap to finally do its magic on the bottom valve - altogether (with the aforementioned drilling) was several hours of effort. Then I used a hose to clean out the soap and went about re-connecting my filter. IMPORTANT: Be sure to use some pool lube on all the O-rings in your new Assembly. I am quite certain this was a contributor to why mine got stuck in the first place - and the added frictional stress no doubt shortened the lifetime of the metal pin too. Hence, another piece of advice: Lube those O-rings every 4-6 months - I figured this out on my own, but the good folks at the pool store provided the frequency (said every 6 months). GETTING "CLEVER:" I don't know how this is going to turn out, but before I lubed up the O-rings and re-installed the valve assembly, I used some silicone sealant around the metal pin (I let it set up a couple days). The sealant is flexible and water proof, so it MAY extend the life of the pin without restricting the bit of wiggle (play) the pin provides. With regular lubing and a sealed pin, I am optimistic to get more than 5 years out of the pin - which is about how long the previous one lasted. When the pin does eventually break, keeping the O-rings lubed should enable an easy and inexpensive fix. About this assembly: Yes, it's a good, well-constructed piece. To the manufacturer, I would suggest it would be pretty easy to include some small structures to more readily seal up the metal pin, and/or have a key to help extract a stuck valve. Still, solid, shipped on time, and working great. 5 Stars. THANKS: I would like to thank all the other helpful reviewers, here and in other places (including the INYO Pools site, the Hayward site, and the local "B&B pools" store. All were helpful and informative).

Replacement for worn out predecessor
My pool caretaker told me I needed a new piston assembly but that is could not be purchased separately from its enclosed PVC piping and that would require much PVC plumbing. He had just completed a repair several months earlier on a different part of my system and the costs were building ,so I told him that I would take care of it. I reviewed the data on my filter, found the same filter on Amazon and the piston assembly they recommended. It did come in two versions(one as shown and the other with its PVC piping. I ordered it without the PVC and the transaction was smooth and quick. On arrival, I simply unscrewed a retaining cap, pulled out the old piston assembly and inserted the new. It worked beautifully and I saved many dollars. If is lasts as long as the previous (same vendor Hayward) assembly I will update it to 5 stars!

It works fine, but too expensive.
When your pool filter diverted valve breaks, you will need to replace it if you want to flush your filter. So there is no choice but to buy a new one, and they are not cheap. Injection molded plastic attached to a metal rod should not be expensive. But they’ve got you in a bind and they know it.

Handle shaft corroded within 3 months
Bought end of Dec 2023 and the shaft was rusty and corroded and had to be replaced mid March 2024. I decided to buy a new one at my local pool supply store instead of Amazon

Worked perfectly
Basically plug and play. I literally put the new valve in place, tightened the top and turned the pump on. Worked terrific.
