Zebra Symbol DS8178-SR 2D/1D Wireless Bluetooth Barcode Scanner/Imager, Includes Presentation Cradle and USB Cord (Upgraded Model of DS6878-SR)

There are A LOT of DS8178 models/part numbers, as well as cradle part numbers. If a Zebra customer had a model custom built, Zebra will not provide support to anyone else. The scanner model I received is DS8178-SR0F107ZZWW and the cradle is CR8178-PC110F4WW. YOU CANNOT UPDATE THE FIRMWARE ON THESE. I see this model all over the internet now that I know what to look for. These must have been surplus from a major retailer or other large company. Either way, you cannot get any support for these devices.

Moving to a cordless scanner is worth every penny. This scanner does an excellent job of reading 2d barcodes engraved directly onto the bottom of laptop computers. HP brand laptops, in particular, are hard to scan, but this will do it. The scanner does require a well-lit room to function quickly. I added a few LED lights on the underside of desks to help with quicker scanning.

This item showed up clearly used. It was covered in scuffs and scratches and was even written on with a marker.

I was having trouble pairing to a tablet and not only did they answer the phone on the first ring but they had me up and running in under 2 minutes. Great service and solutions. There was nothing wrong with the scanner, it was a matter of getting it to pair directly with my tablet.
