Sharp knives at last!
Once I actually read the instructions(!), this was easy to use and very effective. I took it to my son’s house and they were amazed at how much sharper their knives were. So glad to have a good sharpener.

Does what it should, easy to use, sharpens a range of blades
This is great, and totally worth the money. The only knife sharpener I ever had before was a small whetstone. I had a bunch of kitchen knives that were in sad shape, all duller than an HR presentation. I read about this one on Wirecutter, and decided to give it a try. Good purchase. You plug it in, turn it on, and run your knives through a few times on each side. It only runs for a short amount of time, so you don't have to worry about overdoing it. Best of all, it actually works. Those knives are sharp now. You can remove part of it in order to make the openings larger, so that you can sharpen something thicker, such as scissors.Don't use ceramic blades on this. You can also sharpen serrated blades, though not in the same way as straight blades. The sharpening wheels are replaceable, which is great, meaning this is not disposable junk. You can also open it up to get the metal dust out from inside. If you want useful knives again, just buy this. There are supposedly better sharpeners, but they are way more expensive, and I'm not about to bring my blades to Chopped or anything, so I am good. You will be too.

Servicable but not high-end
This item was the economy alternative in a recent NYT Wirecutter piece. I found it sharpened dull knives quickly enough (5-7 cycles of grinding), and touched up less dull items in one or two cycles. The finish on the sharpened surface, even after honing, is pretty rough. Not what I would tolerate on my woodworking tools. However, we have good, not high-end cutlery and do not fancy ourselves chefs. Paying $250+ for a professional sharpener is overkill for most people I'd guess. The quality of the unit is OK. I expect it will last 5 years sharpening maybe 20 knives per year. The grinding disks tend to flex, so a light touch is best. If I decide I want a better edge, I'll teach myself to sharpen on waterstones.

Where has this been all these years?
This changes the game for sharpening my knives. I like them sharp! I’ve used other sharpeners and have honed and oiled and etc! This is so easy and superior. So far, love it! It also did a nice job with a couple of pairs of scissors.

A disappointment!
This knife sharpener was a great disappointment. I have a set of high quality kitchen knives that hadn't been sharpened for a while. Although $60 seemed like a lot of money, I figured it would be worth it to have my knives well sharpened. That never happened. I tried multiple times with the several different knives, and this piece of equipment never made a difference. When I explained this to Amazon in their "reason for return" box, I was grateful that they immediately refunded the price of my purchase.

OK for some knives, but NOT heavy-duty
PROS:Easy to set up. Small, easy to store. Instructions easy to follow. Price was acceptable. Sharpens most straight knives but not serrated knives. (The instructions say its HONING wheel is OK for serrated knives, however.)CONS:Small, lightweight, feels kind of flimsy for a kitchen appliance I hope to keep for a long time. The grinding wheels are very thin. The mfr does sell replacement wheels but I hope these last a while. The unit runs on 12 volts DC (with the included AC adapter) and its little DC motor sounds awfully weak. The heavier knife sharpeners use an AC motor with some torque. This one is kind of feeble.
