Great quality adapter, but may not fit smaller bikes
My wife has a Schwinn Ranger with a small frame (24" wheels), and it barely fits between the seat post and handlebars with it collapsed. If I needed it for a smaller bike, like a child's 20" BMX style, I don't think it would fit. Otherwise, it's great and feels like it is good quality, as I would expect from Thule.

Love THULE gear
Love THULE gear! I bought my THULE bike rack at a pro bike shop and they never told me I needed an adapter for a ladies bike and kids bike which I also purchased there during the same transaction. I spent a lot of money on 3 Trek bikes, bike gear, helmets, and a Thule 4 bike rack. Glad I found the needed info online...only wish the salesman told me I would have to buy additional accessories for my bike rack. I tried to put the bikes on the bike rack and planned a day of bike riding only to get stuck without frame adapters! I'd rather buy a quality item from Amazon and get the support I need rather than an inexperienced salesman at a bike shop. I contacted Thule prior to my Amazon purchase and they were extremely helpful but their products on the website were a lot more expensive. They assisted me with some other minor problems and then I searched Amazon and found what I needed and purchased lots of accessories! Great price, great product, fast shipping!

Firm. Check the measurements.
It is a firm metal-based telescopically adjustable adapter (at least it has not break on a highway yet). Its loops are coated with resin and have little cutouts on the upper side for handle bar / seat mounts. Gates lock firmly although I had to get used to the way they work: they rotate on a pin in their middle and form a cross at right angles to the bar. The length of the collapsed bar (I don't count the loops) is 15 1/2 inches. Adapter will work on bikes with the distance between handle and seat stems not less than these 15 1/2 inches (my bike is mounted on a rack with unadjusted adapter on photo 3). I think it works best on bikes with 20-25 inches between handle and seat stems, because this distance would let you adjust the adapter after you lock the gates and make it fit more tightly (as seen on photo 5). Maximum length of the bar is 23 inches. Loops inside diameters are approximately 2 3/16 in and 3 7/8 in.

Great-- MAKE SURE of a couple of things when using.
I have a nice mountain bike but the 29er frame required a frame adapter for our Thule hitch mount bike rack. I was super nervous about relying on the adapter to keep the bike safe-- but it is a very well made product, easy to use and worked perfectly.Only items to be aware of (not having to do with the Thule Adapter):1) MAKE SURE that your seat post is very tightly attached to the bike frame. If the seat post slips out during travel in your car, the rear of the bike will fall off the rack.2) If you have a larger bike or larger wheels (29er)-- AND you have a lower car (like a minivan)-- your bike's front tire may hang too low to the ground. No problem if you're planning on driving on perfectly flat roads. But a speed bump, dip entrance in/out of a gas station, etc. could cause your bike to scrape the road. You can solve this by either adding something under the Thule Adapter-- or just removing the front tire.

Issue for bikes with a tall handle bar stem
Purchased this to use on my daughters Trek WSD (Women’s Specific Design – ie no horizontal top tube) Allant bike. Unfortunately this bike has a tall handle bar stem and since this frame adapter works by holding the bike under the seat and handle bars when installed – if the bike has a tall handle bar stem, it will then hang very low when installed on the vehicle bike rack and the front tire then rides very close to the pavement and could potentially hit the ground in some cases. To overcome this issue – I lashed the Thule Frame Adapter at the handle bar end with some 3/8 inch soft nylon rope at the front of the bike down to where the top tube / head tube meet – this elevated the bike in the carrier and kept the bike’s front tire from being just a couple of inches from the pavement – moved the front wheel up to where my men’s bike was. Not quite a great solution, but needed a way to make it work for a trip we were leaving on – worked well for 12 hours of highway travel.
