Ultimate Guide to Striped Bass Fishing: Where To Find Them, How To Catch Them

About the advice you'd get at the local tackle shop, but organized
I admit to beeng a newbie at this. But that is why I ask a lot of questions and read what I can find. Obvioulsy this author has experience fishing for stripers in the Chesapeak, and his information is good as far as he takes it. But like most fishermen I talk to he waffles and hemms about what really works and why. The only conclusion I come to is he (like most fishermen) doesn't really know why things work, but he has done it enough to know what does work...sometimes... though obvioulsy he knows far more than I do and more than most fishermen. Still reading this book is like hanging out at the tackle shop for a weekend. Lots of opinion, some good information, all of it hedged with "maybe this willl work and maybe it won't" and frankly most of the analysis is based on justifying what they are already doing. The trade off is that obviously what he is doing works. He goes into detail about fishing spots and times of season in the Cesapeake and Delaware, but when it comes to New England he says "Yep. That is where the stripers spend the summer, from Long Island to Maine" and that is the sum total of his insight. Now c'mon... New England and Cape Cod and Narragansett bay, and Block Island and Mauntauk is striper central.. and that is all he has to say about it? Just about two paragraphs? If you want some good striper stories for the Chesapeake and Virginia this is a good book. If you want to know how to target stripers wherever you fish, not so much. But not to be too harsh, you can certainly learn a lot from it wherever/however you fish and it is an enjoyable read from an obviously experienced angler.Sorta like chewing the fat at the local tackle shop.

Good book if you live in a certain area
This is not a bad book, nor a great book. If you live on the eastern seaboard of Delaware and Virginia. If you live farther up the east coast, New York, Mass, NH and Maine it's a different world. The technical aspect of this book is boat fishing, it in no ways helps a surf fisherman or a big ditch fisherman. But it was a good read,Also I'm not a rookie fisherman, I've been fishing Ma. and Maine waters for 40 years, with success.

Good information, not thorough.
Good book. There is good information in the book and some very good bits of knowledge which I haven't found in other books, but there are other more thorough and comprehensive reads that will get you the knowledge you seek.

Good book with a wealth of information. This is a book that I have read and keep next to the bed to skim before trips.
