Q: how much of an overhang does this cover have?

Minimum after lowering the water level. But had one before and it was fine forgot it had the warranty and thru it out. As stiching was coming loose.

Q: Received cover extended over pool and wonder what happens when it rains?

There should have been a length of wire and “ratchet “ to wrap around the pool to hold the cover in place. When it rains, the cover will fill with water and push down on the water in the pool so make sure that the skimmer opening and return opening are protected from water flowing into them and freezing/ cracking. From time to time if you have a build up of water you might want to either use a small submersible pump to pump some water off the cover or use a siphon with a hose to get one water off the cover Hope this helps
