We have several swimmers in the house and they have been using other brands of paddles for the first couple of years. Those were bulky and not too comfortable to use. The TYR ones are very light but still sturdy enough to hold their shape for several years. We got these for replacing old ones that my son overgrew.

I have been swimming with the TYR Catalyst 2 (sm) for a few years now and wanted to up my game. Bought the TYR Catalyst (Med) to try it out. The bigger fit from small to medium was good and adds to the challenge. The Catalyst definitely adds to improving your pull strength but did not feel as smooth as the Catalyst 2. They are very different in shape. The material that Catalyst was made of prompted me to return the paddles. It just felt too plastic for me. Plus, I managed to find a TYR Catalyst 2 in medium and decided to keep that instead. Just not for me but worth a try! It may work for you.

Got these for my son's swim team. Much better price than on the team website and exactly the same thing.

I've recently gotten back into swimming and decided I need my own equipment. I saw a couple good reviews of these TYR Catalyst paddles (from Olympic athletes, among others) so I decided to give them a try. I am a big guy (6'2" and 210 lbs) and I wouldn't go any bigger than this for myself but maybe if you are looking for to do shorter power sets the really big paddles would probably be good for that. At first the Medium size felt too big but now that I've gotten stronger over a few months I have built up to doing 1000 yards pull set and I'm just tired at the end. If you are a smaller person or want to do speed sets you probably want the smaller sizes. I might buy another smaller set at some point for speed work but the Medium size is working great for me on the endurance sets right now.

Great product, accidentally ordered one size too large though.
