Razer Blackwidow Ultimate - Backlit Mechanical Gaming Keyboard - Fully Programmable - Tactile & Clicky Green Switches

I ordered the clicky style of this keyboard, and so far I really like it. It has a nice solid build with a good heft to it, and it doesn't feel cheap or flimsy. The buttons are easier to press than the buttons on my Unicomp keyboard were, but that doesn't mean there's no tactile feedback. Quite the contrary! You can definitely feel these keys responding to your touch on the way down and on the way back up. You can also feel the actuation point. The keys make a very satisfying clicking sound (for those of us who like that sort of thing) that I'd say is a bit louder and higher pitched than the clicks of an IBM model M. If I had to choose one word to sum up how these keys feel, I'd say snappy.As to the design, the keys are layered in tiers the same way an IBM model M or Unicomp keyboard is (rather than flat like some modern keyboards), are concave like those in an IBM model M or Unicomp keyboard, are smaller and closer together than those in an IBM modem M or a Unicomp, but I'd say the spacing between them is about the same. If you're switching from one of those to this there will be a slight adjustment period, but it shouldn't take you long to feel at home with this keyboard. The F and J keys have the familiar ridge on them to let you know you're on those keys without looking, and all of the keys have a smooth finish.The keyboard also only comes in black. For those of us who have been using white or grey keyboards for years, it will take a bit of getting used to, and you'll either need to use the backlighting provided by the keyboard or turn on the lights in the room earlier than you would have with the lighter keyboard if you look at your keys as you type (I don't, generally, but do when going for rarely used keys like some of the numbers or symbols).I'm using this keyboard on a GNU/Linux machine, and I'd read all over the place that you can't run the Razer Synapse software on GNU/Linux, and you do need that software to configure the lighting effects. Since I have a Windows computer for work, I hooked the keyboard up to that, downloaded and installed the software, and configured the lighting to just be static (it came with the breathing effect enabled by default). Once I had that configured in Windows, I plugged the keyboard into my GNU/LInux machine and can brighten, dim, and turn off the lights with the Fn and F11 or Fn and F12 keys whenever I like. I didn't try creating more than one lighting profile, but if I do, I'll update this review so others will know if you can access multiple profiles in GNU/Linux.There are a couple of things about this keyboard that are strange. First, all of the letters on the keys are upper case except for the r, which is lower case. Second, the text on the number and symbol keys is transposed when compared with almost any other keyboard out there (example: the 9 key has a 9 on top and a ( on the bottom instead of the other way around). When the keyboard has its backlighting turned on, only the top text is lit, and you won't be able to see the bottom text and will need to have memorized it. Note that the number and symbol keys behave just like the keys on any other keyboard - it's just the text on the keys that's different.If Razer ends up offering standard replacement keys (with all upper case letters and with the text on the number and symbol keys like all other keyboards I've ever seen) and if all of the text on the number and symbol keys lights up instead of just the top row, I'd instantly buy them. Meanwhile, that bit of strangeness isn't enough to make me regret having gotten this keyboard or convince me to look around for another one. I love how this keyboard feels, responds, and behaves. I'm relishing every moment I spend using it, and I look forward to pounding away on it for years to come.

I have used many keyboards over the years, from your normal typical keyboard to off brand gaming keyboards. My favorite keyboard thus far has always been the one on my MacBook Pro. Although, I must say.. That was until today when I set this dream up. I was blown away right off the bat from the packaging and design of this keyboard. I typically try to avoid higher priced items such as these due to the fact I was never fully convinced they were worth what they cost. I recently completed my first gaming PC build and decided that since I have already came this far with my build, that now is a good time to spring for a top of the line keyboard and mouse. I purchased this in conjunction with the Razer Chroma gaming mouse. I was also blown away by that as well but I'll save that for my other review. This keyboard is such a dream to type on. I fell in love with it right off the bat. The style is top notch, the software has an insane amount of options you can use to customize the keyboard layout, pretty much however you want, and it saves to each specific game as far as your custom button layout goes. It doesn't get much better than that for me! The lighting on it is green and green only, so if I had 1 complaint it would be that. However the color is bright, vivid, and looks stunning. There are a ton of customization options as to how you can set up the lighting. You can have it pulsing, solid, or a wave effect, plus so much more. The wave option is probably my favorite so far! Razer really knocked it out of the park with this model and I stand behind this purchase 100%. I do not regret it in the slighest. It really is a gamers and typing dream! Well done Razer! I was afraid i wasnt going to like this as I have only used chicklet-style keyboards on laptops before, and my only experience with "mechanical"s has been the abysmal piece-of-trash $20 Dell keyboards in my school's computer labs. I am super, super happy with this keyboard though. Today I finished up a big term paper with this keyboard and it is just an absolute joy to type on. I have never used a keyboard that is so comfortable, so easy to type with, and so satisfying to click. My only complaint is that it is a bit louder than i was expecting (i didnt get the stealth) but overall it is a small gripe. The included software also gives this keyboard some very very cool lighting effects. Initially they seemed gimmicky to me but once i tried them out I really loved them. The size of the keyboard and build quality are also excellent. It is not a compact, small keyboard and gives you plenty of room which is good for people like me with big hands and who dont like cramped keyboards. It is also weighty and stays in place nicely on my desk

This keyboard is amazing. I might be a bit biased because I love Razer gear but I still think this is a great keyboard. It performs very well and can take a lot of keystrokes and work fine. Some reviews say it double types I have had that issue but only when I don't press the key down all the way.I love playing with this keyboard it has great performance and the sound of the keys is just awesome. Although the sound does change after a bit of use as you break it in. It becomes less loud. Great keyboard. Very responsive, tactile feel. Really happy with purchase. This was for my uncle who didn't need the macro keys, so it was perfect for him. I have the 2014 version myself.

Was confused between this and the Corsair. But the day it arrived, I knew that it was the ultimate choice. It is choice, it is perfection. Clicky(somewhat noisy) and superfast. The import did take somewhat like 10 days and it was worth the wait. The lighting is amazing.. the usb 3.0 port is very fast and headfone slot works perfectly as expected. The only cons are 1. The keyboard is pretty heavy and 2. Everytime i checked the macro, several keys stopped responding even after i turn off macro function, and stays like that until i restart the software. Giving it 5 star as it is worth the money and a perfect gaming partner with some pretty good looks.

I actually bought this to replace an older Razer widow I had. Performed percussive maintenance while waiting for this to arrive and suddenly everything worked a still works 10/10 and I have a back up ready to go now.

If you like clicky keyboards, and enjoy great comfort while playing games. This is a great keyboard. It's quite heavy so it's not lightweight, but that means that its not gonna feel cheap.

Purchased it several years ago for great value at Prime Day. Served as the gateway into the world of mechanical keyboards, once I tried the clicky switches, the regular membrane switches felt lacking. The black design and subtle lighting also matches well with my Razer laptop and rest of my setup. Has held up to this day of use a few times a week at my home setup. Razer has many new models in the market these days but this one's still a classic!
