Ballerina Dreams: From Orphan to Dancer (Step Into Reading, Step 4)

My 3rd grader loved this book. We had a great family discussion about following your dreams =)

My bi-racial daughter loves this book. Glad to see little girls of color represented in this book so my kids have someone to relate to and emulate. Great read for my 7 year old. We would love to see more books produced like this one.

Di Read it. You will not believe the path, strewn with obstacles, land mines and nearly impossible impediments, that Misty Copeland transverses to become the shining star she deservedly is. I go to the ballet twice a year. Nutcracker Suite and Swan Lake. I HAD NO IDEA who Misty Copeland was when I saw Swan Lake in late June a Wednesday matinee (I am much. much more a Yankee fan than into ballet). MY wife and I were blown away by the performance. To such an extent that I went upstairs and became a Member of the ABT just to get an autographed picture of Misty Copeland. I later found out about a bit about her. I read the book. Read the book. See her perform. PS She is also authentic, congenial, down-to-earth, charming and with as much grace as anyone I have ever seen. (I was at the WNYC podcast of her in the Green Space).

My first and second grade students really love this book. They were so excited when I brought it into the room. It is an inspiring story about Mikaela DePrince, who was adopted from Africa and is a current ballerina. First graders may need assistance reading the book, but they were motivated to try.

Great book for younger readers as they transition out of fictional stories. My daughter is 7 and found the young ballet dancers journey extremely fascinating. A great book to read every so often... both independently and together.

Beautiful book. I had read the full version, would be harrowing for a child. I love this kid friendly version as my daughter and I could have our own little book club in reviewing it. Michaela is very humbling and inspiring woman.

Sad story with a happier ending. I could not put it down.
