For what it is it is just fine.Based on my use of is close to what it is described as. I purchased because I don't want a plastic lens. I would have to say those calling this cheap are expecting something that costs 3 times the price of this.For me this magnifying power is just right. For someone with normal vision they may want to step down one power and for someone far sighted they may want to step one or two powers. Depending on your personal vision will determine how far away you need to hold the glass to focus?Happy with the item. Would have given 5 stars if handle was a bit longer.

Beautiful design but not 6X magnification
The Magnifying Glass 6X Magnification Magnifier Handheld Magnifier for Science is well-designed, easy to handle, and functions well - although I don't think it's 6x magnification - seems more like 3x when I compare it side-by-side with other magnifying glasses. Thankfully, I wasn't as concerned about the magnification power because I was just buying it as part of a gag gift.
