Design Toscano SP3015 Lion and The Snake Cast Iron Foundry French Royalty Decorative Door Knocker, Gold

It’s a good casting. I believe it’s cast-iron. The details are good. The only downside is the hardware that comes with it is lacking. You’ll need to buy anchors if you have a hollow metal door because the lions head is only held on with two screws. As for the round piece that the knocker handle hits, the bolt is very long and does not come with a decorative nut to hold it in place on the inside of your door. This bolt goes through the front of your door and comes out the back of your door. In my case the bolt is a half inch too long - so I’m going to have to saw it down. I found a decorative nut, but it’s far from ideal: as it should come with some type of cover plate that lies flat to the door. Otherwise you see a half inch threaded rod sticking out from the backside of your door with a nut on it. I may have to go buy a threaded post with screw to replace it or furniture hardware with a hex nut head and a hex socket connecting bolt in bronze (similar to the hardware you use when you assemble IKEA furniture).Edit: I affixed the knocker to the backside of my door by using an M5 metric fancy nut in solid brass. I then ground down the excess 1/8 inch of bolt that was showing by using my Dremel. What you see in the photos is prior to me grinding down the bolt until it was flush with the surface of the brass nut. It looks much better. You may not have to do any grinding if your door is thicker than mine.

We have been customers of Design Toscano for over 35 years and have some very nice pieces from the company.... but have to say that they are not the same quality now that they we 25-30 years ago. My husband was very disappointed in the quality of thiis piecew, called it flimsy, a piece of junk. It was a problemm solver for us, and sure looks better than the broken doorknob that was there before, but really is not the qualioty I expect from Design Toscano, or which we have gotten in the past. This is not an expensive piece, but it is also not very well made, or sturdy.

I searched for this door knocker after I saw it in Rome, Italy. I was so excited when I found it on Amazon, and it was so affordable. It took a few minutes to install, and works perfectly. I can say I don't know anyone else who has this so it makes the front door of my new home stand out, and I love it! It reminds me of Italy, and it is a great conversation piece.

I really love this knocker the best out of three I’ve purchased recently from various places - restoring an old house with three doors. Wished it would fit my front door but compliments the natural wood and stained glass on the door I used it on. Just stunning

I wanted something regal and ridiculous for my pink front door. I found this and painted it matte black. It is heavy and feels expensive. Please note that the screws that come with it are really long and may go through to the other side of the door. Luckily my husband noticed before he started drilling.

I was very surprised for the price at how detailed, heavy and classy this looks. It really looks like an antique. It really added a fancy element to our front door.
