Apparently this is a super common point of failure for Volkswagens. Figured out the problem on Saturday morning, ordered right away, got item on Monday night and it took me longer to find my tools than it did to fix. Gotta love that!

super easy and straightforward part replacement, and the latch works great! still only recently replaced so i’ll update after some wear and tear in the future

A good replacement
A really easy straight forward part to replace and install. When put side by side with the oem it look the same other than part number. When closing the hatch it feels loose maybe it needs a little adjustment. I would recommend getting the warranty plan. This is a good oem replacement. I am overall pleased with this product.
