A Great Tool for the DIY Mechanic
I do a lot of work on Mercedes-Benz cars and have my own copy of their Xentry/Star Diagnosis System that I use on them, but I also have kids with other brands of cars and my wife just bought a BMW, so I wanted something that would diagnose those other brands. I found that this Autel MD808 promised to diagnose “all” car brands, and the price was reasonable so I gave it a try.My first use for it was on one of the kid’s cars, a VW Passat. She was having an issue with not getting any hear in the cabin, so I connected the MD808 and immediately got an error on the temperature damper control serve. Sure enough, a quick inspection found the servo was not moving the damper. Next, I tried it on a Mercedes-Benz and found several errors, one indicating a bad coolant thermostat. I verified this with my Xentry tool and it showed the exact same errors. I actually noticed how similar the menu arrangement and nomenclature is between the MD808 and Xentry. I suspect the Autel programmers must have used Xentry as their basis. I have also successfully tried this on several other vehicles including a Ram truck, Hyundai Sonata and a Honda CRV.Note that this tool will not do any “coding” or “programming” of modules, so you can’t change any settings in the car, but it can read diagnostic trouble codes from all systems in all cars I have tries it with. It will also read and display live data, which can be useful to determine when a sensor or device goes “out of spec”. The exception to not doing any coding is that it will re-calibrate electronic parking brake systems, but I have not used that feature. Speaking of brakes, while it will pull codes from the Mercedes-Benz Sensotronic Brake System module, it will not disable it for service – you will need to use Xentry or some other tool to perform any brake work on cars with SBC.I do recommend this tool to anyone working with multiple makes of cars. Note that you can save some money by purchasing the unit WITHOUT the OBDII extension cable. I picked that version because I thought the longer cable might be nice to have, but honestly, the standard cable is plenty long.

Save money, good for DIYers
The scan tool's ability to perform oil service resets and battery maintenance has been incredibly convenient, saving me time and money. Additionally, the support for EPB, SAS, and DPF regeneration is a huge plus for maintaining my vehicle's health. Updating the device is hassle-free, ensuring that it stays up-to-date with the latest vehicle models and diagnostic protocols. Overall, the Autel MD808 PRO has been an invaluable addition to my automotive toolkit, providing reliable and user-friendly diagnostics for my Ford F-150.

Saved me thousands of dollars!
A check engine light showed up on my dashboard one day, followed by a message saying "wrong quality fuel detected" in my Range Rover. Considering that there was not a real problem, and that I had already dealt with this issue a year ago (the dealership visit was $1k+), i decided to get the Autel tool to erase the code from the ECU myself. I had never used a tool like this before, and I was able to figure out how to plug it into the car port and operate it without watching any tutorials because it is THAT easy to use. I was able to erase the code, along with a "service required" message that not even technicians at the dealership had been able to turn off. What is even better about this tool is that it can be used to clear codes about the Diesel particulate filter, which appear on the dashboard quite frequently because those sensors are finicky too.All in all, I am beyond satisfied with my purchase and would absolutely recommend it to other DIY mechanics out there.

Would be great if the updates added newer cars
When I first got this scanner, I loved it. The problem is that the “free updates” are just for the software that runs the scanner - it doesn’t add newer vehicle models. So, my MD808 Pro that I bought in 2020 is frozen in time covering only 2016 and older vehicles. I updated the scanner with the newest software about 3 weeks ago, but it didn’t add any newer vehicles. Now that my cars are 2017 models, this scanner is nearly useless to me. I would gladly pay $50 every couple of years to update to add the newest vehicle models they have. I don’t expect the tool to have the current model year covered, or even the last few years. But, I do think that the ability to update to models that are 4 years old is a reasonable ask. Autel has that software for its other scanners. It’s a good scanner, just be sure you understand this significant limitation.
