It will do the job. came earlier than expected
These days with mites being a real danger to the health and survival of a hive this is a versatile and useful tool. I like it can be used in many ways. I thought the price was just slightly high.

Makes getting varroa mite counts on your hives a synch.
Been keeping bees 5 years now. Up until now I'd do an sugar role in a mason jar with some fine hardware cloth at the top of the jar, where I'd have to shake the jar with the bees onto a plate, then spray water on the powder sugar, bee parts, and and mites that came out of the jar when shaking it. It worked... but certainly not terribly precise.This Varroa EasyCheck makes the entire process so much easier. While you can do a sugar roll or alcohol wash with this kit, I choose for the first time to do an alcohol wash, and the results were much easier to see, giving me the easiest to assess mite count I've ever seen.Highly recommend this product.

Too expensive but it’s a must have.
Unless you have time or a good syste, it’s easier to use EasyCheck. I gave “value for money” 2 stars since everything now is ridiculously priced & getting worse daily. Randy Oliver created this design & they modified it to be not as good. If you’re less lazy than me, go to Randys site & get his clear solo cup design. You must test as we continue toward resistance of Varroa resistance. Be ethical toward other beekeepers and responsible for your apiary by treating & testing. As bes die and queens are old at a year, resistant colony is a whole different one with new genetics unless the now less productive old queen remains meaning smaller harvest less bees to defend against robbing and worse over-wintering odds. Requeen w a resistant mating for big $ or hopefully your hygienic hive will supersede for a free Queen but her matings will probably be with non-hygienic drones. Again, you don’t have a resistant colony & that affects my bees too. It takes all beekeepers working together. Bees are expensive. Allow for your must-haves.

Does the job.
This product was easy to prepare for use and the instructions were easy to understand and follow. The only thing that was a negative about that part was that when I swirled the alcohol it leaked out. The lid was not exactly right and wouldn’t screw on tight but it did get the job done. You don’t need anything else to test except the alcohol and of course the bees. It is reusable and shouldn’t need replaced. I rinsed mine out and put it back in the box for this fall.

It leaks.
It gets the job done, but it's messy because it leaks. It's a very expensive item (for what it is), so this shouldn't be happening.
