Review: Greenworks 21" Self-Propelled Electric Lawn Mower – A Solid Prime Day Purchase
I snagged this Greenworks 21" self-propelled electric lawn mower during a Prime Day deal, despite some mixed reviews. As a long-time Greenworks user with their edger and blower, I was confident in the brand and already owned several compatible batteries. The advertised 45-minute runtime seemed optimistic, but I wasn’t concerned. In my test, the included 5Ah battery lasted just under 25 minutes, which I expected given the heavy load—cutting thick, damp St. Augustine grass while using the self-propel feature nonstop. Battery life clearly depends on the motor’s workload, and this was a demanding test.UPDATE: I've cut my lawn two more times with continuing good results. The most recent time I did not use the self-propel feature at all and got about 36 minutes on the battery. It was still showing one of the four charge lights illuminated so I don't how much longer it would have operated. This mower is a worthy successor to my aging Lawn Boy 21" self-propelled mower. Unpacking and setup were straightforward, and I was impressed by the mower’s sturdy, well-built construction—solid and durable. The variable-speed transmission is a standout feature, intuitive to adjust and responsive. Starting the mower is effortless, and the self-propel engagement mirrors my old Lawn Boy: release the bar for about half a second, and the wheels free up for easy backward pulling. The large rear wheels also further enhance maneuverability and make it easy to push without engaging The self-propel feature. The single-lever height adjustment is simple and convenient, making quick changes a breeze.Cutting performance was excellent, even through heavy, wet St. Augustine grass. The mower powered through with minimal clumping, and the side discharge chute worked cleanly—a strong showing for such challenging damp conditions.Overall, this Greenworks mower is a powerful, user-friendly, and well-constructed machine. As a replacement for my old gas mower, it’s a clear upgrade. No regrets so far—highly recommended for anyone looking for a reliable electric option!

Worth it!
Love this mower & accessories! So easy to use! And it does a great job on our rough & bumpy yard. It's got a METAL deck which is amazing for a battery powered mower. They are typically plastic.Only 2 complaints: 1) this sucker is HEAVY. I can push/pull it with no problem while mowing, I just cannot physically fold it up to put it up by myself. 2) I wish the battery lives were longer. We can mow the yard with one solid charge, but there's not much left after. And it takes a long time to fully charge them. Was hoping to send my tween out to earn his own money this summer mowing the neighbors yards, but that's not very easy or practical with this type of mower requiring a full charge in between lawns.

Generally good, but battery performance...
It was easy to assemble and well packed. The flap on the back makes pulling it backwards a pain, but many suffer from this. I suppose a more flexible one wouldn't hold up as well. It cuts very even, the yard looks nice. It is a 21 inch cut, equal to most gasoline mowers. But...Don't expect 40 minutes on a battery, especially if you are using the self-propelled feature. Even being judicious in using it, I found that 30 minutes was about the limit. Actually, that's not completely accurate. At around thirty minutes it starts to lose power and shows just one bar on the battery. I'm still able to let it climb back up the hill and still has juice left over, and I haven't run it until cutoff. If you don't mind taking a break every so often while the battery charges, no problem.I'm not sure why, but the cost of a second (spare) battery is astronomical -- beyond $175 on Amazon. And, there's no special bundle deal when you buy the mower. The battery is nothing special, it's just a proprietary plug-in. So, if you plan on mowing a 100 x 100 ft or more of yard, you'll want to consider the cost of a second battery or plan to take a break while it charges (which takes about an hour, not bad, just long enough to enjoy an adult beverage...).

cuts great and very easy to operate
I have only used my new mower one time but WOW! i am a 69 year old woman and was looking for a light mower. i was initially upset it wasn't 21 pounds (almost returned it) but it is still feels pretty light and handles easily. it cuts like a charm with one pass. i was able to do my lawn in about 15 minutes! (previously would take me 40 minutes with old mower repeating areas to get all the grass cut) so the power level was very satisfactory and the blades did the job the first time. i was giddy at how great it mowed! not wanting to stop i then did the side yard (about as big as the front yard, and then a little out front by our field and still had 2 dots left on my battery. i used it totally about 35 minutes and didn't even break a sweat. our lawn is on a hill side and only needed the self propel when i was going uphill. i only had it on the second lowest self propel level and it took me uphill like a charm. and as someone else said... be sure to let go of the self propel handle when making a turn on the back wheels or it will take you for a ride!! i did not need the self propel to go sideways or downhill. without the self propel on you can mow backwards also and just lift the front and and place it down into small areas and it cuts great that way also. and i did not have to repeat areas to get the cut nice like my previous mower which admittedly was a battery powered self propelled reel mower . best yet - the grass looks fantastic.
