It has so much character and the roman numerals that were carved into the wood adds so much character and charm and it looks great on our new fireplace
The mantel was everything I hoped it would be. It has so much character and the roman numerals that were carved into the wood adds so much character and charm and it looks great on our new fireplace. Loved the letter that came with the mantel that gave some history of mantel and where it came from. Price is very reasonable and we are very satisfied. We have received many complements from friends and family.

Should have been better prepared
Looks like something I could have bought way cheaper at a lumber store. If they took the time in staining it and sanding I probably would have liked it more. It’s stained very lightly so you can see like black dirt or a bad stain. Also one side is stained and the other end is not. Also one side was rounded andnot the other side. Seemed rushed. Also very hard to put on and my husband does know how to do things like this. Not happy

Be sure to ask what color wood will be stained.
The shipping was fast and it is a nice piece of wood. However, even though we saw that the pictures were just examples ("The Fireplace Mantel Shelf is a stock item. The one you see is not necessarily the one you will receive. They will be highly similar, but different characteristics."), we were kind of shocked at how dark the stain was. We expected something closer to the light stain in the pictures. Ours is freshly stained and almost black. It's too much money to return so we will use it, but we wish we would have known to tell the company not to stain it so dark.

Difficult to mount but quality wood
I will change my review if I can figure out how in the heck to mount this thing. It’s nice, but the holes drilled in the back are not nearly large enough for my brackets.I hung this in spite of being sold on it having an easy installation piece as pictured in the product pics in the offering. Instead, as pictured in my photos they carved out the back and sent the T brackets. After two trips to Lowe’s and $40 later, I got it installed. I was not able to hit a stud due to the limited space carved in the back. So I am hoping the heavy duty anchors I purchased will suffice. They say they can hold up to 79 lbs. fingers crossed! Had it been as pictured in the seller photos, this would have required zero trips to Lowe’s and I also could’ve hit a stud. Disappointed but generally happy with the quality of the board.

Absolutely perfect and easy to install!
I can’t say enough good about this mantel or the customer service. I had a couple of questions before purchasing and they were very helpful and responsive. It is absolutely gorgeous and exactly what I wanted for our room! In terms of hanging, if you can find a stud and measure with any degree of accuracy, it’s really pretty easy! We’re by no means pros and we had it up in under an hour (including a few mistakes since this is not something we do by trade!) It even came with a note giving us some history on where it came from. I would 100% recommend this regardless of price, but especially because of. Something fake from overstock or Wayfair would easily cost you more.

NOT easy to mount!
Because of their sheer size/weight and the limitations as to how they can be mounted, based on the way the seller makes them, these can be very frustrating. If you're a novice or even intermediate when it comes to engineering ways to install stuff right, I wouldn't try it. The post bracket/supports themselves are quite heavy (steel) and they really should not be installed with sheetrock anchors, but with a shelf this length (12") you will need at least one anchor, and that is if you're lucky enough to get one of the brackets into a stud. If you're like me, you're trying to fit them into a certain space and you don't have your choice of studs to pick from, and there was NO WAY i was going to hang something this beefy with sheetrock anchors. What I ended up having to do was buy toggle bolts and use the toggle bolts to secure 1x3 strapping to the wall first, because I had no studs to screw into for the most part (I bought 4 of these shelves, so there were a couple instances where I did get into studs). With the strapping secured to the wall with 3 toggle bolts EACH. I was ready to screw the floating shelves into the strapping from the tops at a 45* angle with 3" sheetrock (black, Griptite) screws, 3 screws per shelf, with pilot holes. As another step, I had to stain the tops, bottoms, and ends of the pieces of strapping so it was not as noticeable that there was light pine colored strapping back there. It came out looking great, but what a major pain. I kept putting it off for months because I had more important things to do and this was not a quick easy install.

Floating shelves looked great, sizes were exactly
Floating shelves looked great, sizes were exactly, but I didn't like the fact that the stain was still wet,it was wrapped in plastic, ruined a nice shirt opening one of them,oh well....
