Steven Spielberg Director's Collection (Jaws / E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial / Jurassic Park / The Lost World: Jurassic Park / Duel / The Sugarland Express / 1941 / Always) [Blu-ray]

At only $38 or so, how can you go wrong with a collection of 8 Steven Spielberg movies? I had only seen a few of these films back in VHS rental times, and of course had forgotten—or not even seen on pre-HD televisions—most of the details, so it was like watching them for the first time. In addition, there were other movies I had never seen, so that was like a bonus.A couple of the movies were not of my taste, both 1941 and Always stand out as head-scratchers. The movie 1941 was preposterous, and the dialog (scripts) of Always was so over-the-top schlocky that I could not believe any of it. I realize it was a remake of an old movie, but my goodness, they could have updated the plot and dialog to make it more real and believable. It was like a very bad version of "Ghost."Having said that, the blockbusters that are there remain blockbusters. The bonus material was absolutely fantastic. In some cases, there were 4-5-6 or more hours of bonus material on each disc. The actual production quality of the blu-rays was wonderful, the physical quality of the package was similarly appreciated, with slots for each disc encased in separate cardboard pages describing each movie. The booklet that provides even more information was appreciated as well.Overall, if you enjoy even 3-4 of these films, then the package is well worth the cost.

These are the movies that I will watch over and over again for years to come. They are just classic for the the famous director.

Pretty much liked the movies I was most familiar like E.T., Jaws, and Jurassic Park I. The interesting movies were Duel and 1941. Jurassic World, Always and Sugarland Express were just ok for me. Sugarland Express and Always did not have special features.

Full disclaimer: I'm not a huge Spielberg fan. I bought this collection for the first 3 of the early films in the set only. That being said, the amount of extras in this box set (if that's your thing) is worth the money alone. (The extras on "1941" are better than the film). Great packaging, great transfers, and I like the booklet as well. Worth the money just for "Jaws", "Sugarland Express", and "Duel". If you are a Spielberg fan and dont' have these in your collection, what are you waiting for?
