Great book!
I love to bake and have used several cookbooks and many recipes from magazines and cooking programs. I am especially pleased with this book, both because of the recipes and for the tutorials. Before this, I had never used instant yeast-what a great discovery-and many other time-saving tips.

Love this cookbook! Easy-to-understand recipes, all from scratch!
Let’s just start by saying I LOVE this cookbook!!! I’ve been following Eileen on her Baking Sense blog and tried a few of her recipes in the past, so I knew I wanted her new cookbook. I’ve already tried 3 of her new recipes and all came out delicious. I am a complete amateur when it comes to baking, but these recipes make it so easy to be successful. Each baking term is described in the front of the book, and there are Quick Tutorials at the beginning of each chapter, which really make a difference in understanding the recipes. That little bit of science behind the baking methods is just what I needed to really get the feel for each step. So far, I’ve made the “Blueberry Cobbler in a Cast Iron Skillet, which was amazing; and cupcakes with the “Red Velvet Cake” recipe. Of course for me, Red Velvet cupcakes had to have “Cream Cheese Frosting” and boy, was this just to-die-for! Brought these to work and everyone loved them. Lots of compliments from my coworkers, especially on the frosting because it was wonderfully creamy and not too sweet. Can’t wait to try some more of these amazing recipes and never mind the cookie recipes for the upcoming holidays. I truly recommend this book. Eileen is an extraordinary baker and her recipes make it easier for me to feel like I’m not too bad at it myself now, either.

My favorite cookbook so far.
Great recipes that are easy to follow.Definitely try the Velvety White Cake, it was delish.

Clear, Instructional, and Fun
Well written cookbook. It is easy to read and the instructions are simple and clear. I have had success with every recipe I’ve used. I appreciate the tips and variations she provides as it helps you learn the technique. I have many go to recipes in here and don’t feel nervous to try new ones. It’s not often I find a book that I as read through the recipes I don’t feel scared of the process or certain ingredients. I would recommend this book over and over.

Just OK
I was excited about this book because I love to bake, and it has a lot of recipes that I'm interested in.Having had it for a while, I can say that it's pretty standard for a cookbook. It's easy to follow, and has a nicely organized table of contents to each section. However, some of the recipes don't seem to have correct measurements for certain ingredients. The white chocolate raspberry blondies, for example, taste absolutely "sinful," as my boyfriend's mom put it. But the texture when they came out of the oven was wayyyyyy off. Not like the way it should be at all. It's been that way every time I've made them. And the buttermilk biscuits came out weird too. I had to add a LOT more flour than what the recipe called for because the dough was incredibly sticky and impossible to knead.Overall an okay book, but some of the results are a little disappointing.

A great addition to your cookbook collection!
Our family is really enjoying this cookbook! It is well organized and beautifully written, with easy to follow instructions. The tutorials at the beginning of each chapter are helpful and informative. Perfect for a beginner cook, but with enough variety to appeal to more experienced bakers as well. My fifteen-year-old enjoyed making the Bacon Corn Muffins. The Peach Upside Down Cake and Espresso Toffee Cookies have been a hit as well. Eileen’s recipes are well-tested and reliably delicious.

First recipe we tried is wrong
I bought this book for my 8-year old who has taken a serious interest in baking. While the recipes are simple, I missed the fact that there are barely any photographs which would be extremely helpful for a child to decide what to make. She was so excited with the book that we set out to make the sugar & spice scones immediately. Sadly, this recipe seems to have a grave error in the flour to milk ratio. It does not make a scone dough at all. I’m scouting the internet for errata but have yet to find it.

Kitchen necessity
A valuable book for every baker to have. Ihave been baking for over forty years and still found a wealth of information in this book. It’s well written and author explains in easy to understand language the science behind successful baking.

Essential information about baking techniques with easy to follow instructions. Great recipes and the basics in each category. I would have appreciated a photo of each recipe.
