4 year old loves this!
Nice sandbox for the price. I have an almost 40 lb. almost 4 year old who loves this. There is room for two kids about that size but that's about it. The box is NOT bottomless - it has a full bottom, no drainage, but the lid appears to have a drainage flap - at least I assume that's what the tab on the corner is(?). The lid is "domed" a bit so you can leave toys inside to store when not in use. My only complaint is the lid - we haven't had any winds to test how well it stays on but other than fitting in some slight grooves at each corner, the lid feels like it just lays on top. So I wouldn't be surprised if in a strong storm, the lid blew off. So to be safe, I keep a rock (not a huge one) on top of the lid to keep it from blowing off. On the short ends, there is open space (I guess to easily lift the lid) - when my husband mowed the lawn around the covered box, debris still got into the sandbox. I imagine water will get in when it rains, but again, no rain since we've had the box. I'm not too bummed, it's a sandbox in a yard, debris is going to get in somehow. My daughter doesn't care - we just pull out the big leaves/twigs and mix up the sand a bit. The corner seats are nice but she just sits right in the sand. As for sand, we used 150 lbs of sand (it holds 200) because it was plenty full at that point, and we kept the extra bag for later refills. I couldn't find the suggested "silica free" sand and after research gave up and bought Quikrete Play Sand at Home Depot. I believe the bags were about $5 or less for a 50 lb. bag. It's VERY dusty but it's play sand, so it does the job and pats off my daughter's pants easily. Would definitely recommend this sand box to someone looking for another yard activity for the little ones.

+ 1 for all positive reviews below
The sandbox is great. Rain or water does not get in, at all. The sand stays dry. The cover closes well and a toddler cannot open it by herself, which is a plus for us, as not every day is a good sand day for our family :)The size of it is great for a smaller terrace/ garden, while also allowing plenty of space for a toddler. We only have 1 toddler playing there now, but she has a lot of space around her. She has a ton of toys and buckets in there and still has space. I think 2 toddlers could easily play there, and 3 or 4 toddlers if they're a little closer together. We used 200 lbs of sand in there, and it's filled nicely. You could probably use less. When you do buy sand, please don't buy sand from the hardware store that can be used for concrete. That sand has small particles that get in your kids' lungs. There is play sand that's washed and prepared for kids to play with (and not for making cement). We bought the Sandtastik play sand and it's great.

Best sandbox my son and I have ever played in!
I can't believe how great this sandbox is, especially for what we paid for it! The lid fits perfectly and doesn't blow away on windy days, which was something I was sure would happen. My son and I can both easily fit in there with toys and have plenty of room to play. Of course, I'm pretty small, but I think you could definitely have multiple children/adults in and around this sandbox without running out of space.I don't remember exactly how much sand we put in here, but it holds a LOT. At least four fifty pound bags went into it, maybe more. I love the little seats in the corners, too. They make a nice place to sit, but you can also set toys or that sippy cup of milk or whatever you have there as well. Very versatile.I couldn't be happier with this purchase. I just wish I'd gotten it last year or the year before! My son could have had an extra two years of fun with this! ;) Definitely something every kid should have, and I'd be shocked if it didn't last way beyond his childhood.

Lid does not snap shut
I am very satisfied with this item especially for the price of $55.My issues: I should have placed a board under it to keep it level, or put it on cement; we put it on gravel, which causes the lid to sit cock-eyed, and thus leaves a gap (but that was our own fault).Even on flat ground, though, this lid does not snap closed as I had imagined that it would. It just sets lightly on top. If you live in a windy area, as we do, you will need to set a heavy rock on top, or strap it down when not in use with bungee cords or a luggage strap to keep it from blowing away in the wind.Overall, we are loving it, and our 2 year old visitor has many hours of fun, fun, fun in it! It is not enormous, but it certainly does the trick. She can easily sit inside it or crouch along the outer edges, either way. I think 2 toddlers inside of it would be crowded, but many toddlers could crouch around the outside and all have a great time.

granddaughter loves her sandbox
My toddler and I both enjoy playing in this sturdy sandbox. It was super easy to set up. The Step 2 Play and Store Sandbox is a good size for two people to play in at the same size (perhaps up to 3 small kids). My son prefers to sit next to it, but the corner seats are so sturdy they can support me (avg. size adult woman). It is deep enough with the recommended sand that we never hit the bottom. The lid stays on well and protects the sandbox from the elements and animals. The lid also provides the ability to store all the sandbox toys neatly in the sandbox when not in use. It is cute with a seaside picture on the top, but also fits into our backyard without being a bright eyesore. He enjoys it, playing there almost every day and it fit what I was looking for in a sandbox.
