When I needed to upgrade my stereo cables I looked for quality craftsmanship and top-of-the-line components. I found them in Dukabel cables. Some forty years ago I was a RIAA Recording Engineer. I was at the Stage Monitor Mixing Desk for the YES 90125 tour in 1984. Just a sound system roady, but I had just finished a EE at The Ohio State University. I knew my stuff. So for my own stereo system I made all the connecting cables, using a $300 soldering machine from PACE and the best silver based solder I could buy. All the RCA jacks and plugs were gold-plated for excellent conductivity and the cable was 14 AWG copper fully wrapped in a braid grounding shield. That wasn’t the speaker wiring, that was just between the TEAC 10” reel-to-reel, the Nakamichi cassette deck, the Thorens turntable, the Yamaha tuner, and NAD CD deck, into the NAD preamp, then to the dbx 15-band stereo graphic EQ, to the Ashly stereo crossover, the on the Crown stereo power amps. From the Crown amps to the Altec Lansing Voice of the Theater bi-amped 15” woofer and a 28” cast aluminum horn with a 2” throat tweeter speakers was 10 AWG cable. Sounded pretty good for a home-stereo system… for over 30 years. Then I had to downsize, and take apart the stereo. Things had gotten pretty old and grungy in the rack holding most of the equipment. Some of the RCA connectors had not exactly corroded as much as severely tarnished. Some almost were welded in place. When I put it all back together several weeks later across the country, I had lots of cable problems. One channel or the other would cut out. On the bench the resistance read in the hundreds or even thousands of ohms, not the 0.1 ohm it should have read. When I finally got one of the bad cables apart I noticed that the wire inside the RCA plug was badly corroded at the solder joint. Splitting the cable open, I found the 14 AWG copper wire was badly corroded almost the entire run from one RCA plug to the other. Over the years moisture had gotten in from the humidity in the air. So, I replaced all my RCA cables with DuKabel cables. They’re made with Oxygen-Free 99.9% pure copper that shouldn’t corrode in 100 years. You pay for what you get, but these cables are worth every penny. My stereo kills.
