Persian Learner Part Two: Elementary Persian for College Students

This edition of Nojoumian's Persian Learner guide was equally as informative as the first. Obviously as you progress through the language the vocabulary you learn in the course gets harder, and along with that less and less english was used throughout the book itself. I find it helpful that the information you learn in this edition is also included in the appendix in the back of the book. The only thing that was hard for me was the amount of space given to write answers on the exercises, I felt that for some of the pages more room could've been given. For example, on pages like 112, where we follow the examples given to form new variations of words, I never felt like I had enough room to write. Other than that the experience of learning from this book was harder than the first but still rewarding.

Ultimately, this is a great book; if you are taking a Persian class that uses this as a guide, you’re in primal position to have a fundamental understanding of the language. My biggest wish for the book is pertaining to verbs; I would have liked a section that would allow us to go over the most important verbs (like raftan) individually. The way verbs were covered felt slightly crowded. Secondly, some of the pinnacle parts of this language covered in Persian learner one are not in this book. I found myself coming back from summer, forgetting some of the numbers we had reviewed, and looked all over the back to find it, but there was no numbers section. I know this book is more so intermediate Farsi, but I’d like a section that helps with some of the most important beginner principles. If you’re in the interest of learning Farsi, this is the book for you.

Dr. Noujomian created another excellent book that is a fantastic addition to Persian Learner 1. This book transitions more into pushing the student to really read and analyze text rather than deriving answers directly from it. The focus shifts away from vocab (though it still has vocabulary) and puts more emphasis on grammar. I found it very helpful to further my reading & writing capabilities and I recommend that if you get Persian Learner 1 then you also purchase Persian Learner 2. Overall, amazing!!

This book is great for college students who want to improve their farsi, whether they are heritage or non-heritage learners. There are lots of activities and examples to get students engaged and interested in the material. For future editions I would suggest giving more space for the students to write down the answers to the homework. I think a more comprehensive glossary and list of verbs in the back of the book would also be useful for learners. Overall a great book!

The Persian Learner 2 book has helped me immensely as a heritage learner. Having not taken any Persian courses before and fairly lacking in my vocabulary and verbiage complexity, this textbook helped me catch up quickly to my peers and was a great source to practice with new verbs, paragraph writing, and vocabulary outside of class to keep the lessons fresh in my mind. Each unit was interesting, informative, and contributed to my better understanding of the Persian language, as well as culture and history. The book also had many practical elements, such as learning how to give directions, comparing and contrasting, and writing letters. Overall, I could not recommend this book enough, whether it be for an actual class or independent learning!

The Persian Learner Part II has been an excellent interactive book! This book allowed me to solidify my grammar skills and expand my academic vocabulary, and I have immensely learned about Persian culture. Also, there are numerous tables in the back of the book that helped me with the worksheets and my overall Persian grammar knowledge. I used the verb conjugations to do the worksheets, and after several practices, I was able to integrate the new verbs that I learned into my Persian language knowledge. Overall, this book is a GREAT book for anyone looking forward to learning more about Persian and Persian cultures. It would be helpful if the e-book version of the book were also available!

Persian Learner Part Two is an excellent follow-up to Part 1 of the series. The book has fifteen units and is designed for students who have intermediate reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. I have found it helpful that each unit has a variety of interactive activities like watching short clips, listening to recordings, and speaking exercises. Within a short span of around three months, I have been able to increase my knowledge of short phrases and learn how to write paragraphs in Farsi. This book is friendly to non-heritage learners (like myself) and will give you the tools you need to engage in conversations with fluent Farsi speakers.

This is a great book for students who want to expand their knowledge of Persian language, both formal and casual.This book helped me improve my reading, writing, and speaking.I am a heritage Farsi learner and knew informal language, but this book helped me upgrade my word bank and also correct forms of verbs and grammar.I also learned how to make a cohesive paragraph with connectors.
