This is an acrylic template, about 3mm thick. It feels very sturdy and is completely transparent. The openings for drawing lines are 1 cm on center. That's about 3/8 of an inch in imperial measurement. There is a 28 cm metric ruler running down one long edge. An HB pencil was included in my package.This template can be used to create lines on unlined paper for all sorts of reasons. I can think of many. Addressing formal envelopes, like for a wedding invitation. Writing in a scrapbook or on a piece of artwork when you want the writing to be consistently spaced. Lightly pencil in your lines and erase them when done.But the reason I wanted this template is to help me quickly draw gridlines for stitching Sashiko, a Japanese form of embroidery. Sashiko is a largely geometric artform and many of the patterns are drawn over evenly spaced 1 cm grids. I will be using the template to draw the lines on freezer paper, then I'll fuse the freezer paper to to my fabric to keep it stable. Then, using a lightbox, I'll use a water- or heat-erasable pen to draw the geometric Sashiko shapes for stitching, directly onto the fabric. This is absolutely perfect to make that process go faster. I've tried drawing my grids with rulers but no matter how hard I concentrate they never turn out well spaced. This will make that process fast and easy. No more sloppy grids.

Not only is this excellent for creating lined paper out of any surface but it's also excellent for creating lines on watercolor paintings and drawings in general, such as landscapes, without needing to resort to a laser level or tracing or lining rulers up against the edges of sketchbooks, etc. Very sturdy, very thick.
