Thank you for your question. Actually,this model macbook is ten years laptop,if you update the newest IOS,maybe all hardwares aren't supported.

No it is not. I still used the original cable on my laptop.

Q: can you use this on an iphone?

No. This is a track pad for a Mac it will not work on an iPhone
