A great way for kids to boost their vocabulary
I chanced upon these Scholastic series of book focusing on core reading skills and have found them to be very useful. My seven-year-old daughter actually enjoys working on the exercises because the passages are short and interesting! The questions are well-designed and help young children, Grades 2-3 build skills in the area of vocabulary, specifically vocabulary in context. Each page contains two short passages and each passage has a question about a highlighted word. The student needs to identify which meaning is closest to the highlighted word in the passage. This is a great way to get children to improve their vocabulary. The passages here are both fiction and non-fiction and are generally interesting. I recommend all the books in this Reading Passages That Build Comprehension series. There is also an answer key at the end of the book. This can be used for independent as well as guided practice.

Good one!

Not enough variety
It has the exact same question for every story/passage. My students need to practice all the different wordings they could see for this type of skill. I'm disappointed.

You gotta love it!
My second grader cannot get enough of this book. I instruct him to work on two pages daily and he always ask for more. You gotta love it!

Perfect for everyday practice
I use this book with my third graders. I give them one page everyday to help build the skill. They take very little time to complete but are very useful.
