Great for smelting.
I finally got around to using these with my first melt. It was some sterling silver. Worked as advertised. My pour didnt turn out that well - but I didn't heat the mold enough (at all). Very cool experience though. They are sturdy and all showed up intact.

Arc lights anyone?
I use these to generate extremely bright lights. You basically connect these to a high current DC power supply and touch the ends with an very small contact point. As long as they touch each other initially they create a very bright light. Then you sperate the rods very very slightly and you get a cheap arc light. If you however want to create a real arc light, then you will need high voltage and some more sturdy materials so this is a good way to start without having to worry about those stuff. You can get an extremely bright light just by using a car battery too. Please be careful what type of power source you're using though, lithium batteries are not a good choice if you're not an expert. So I'd start with ether a car battery or a high current DC power supply that you get get cheap in Amazon. I'd suggest at least 20-30 Amps. Ah, it also can be used to heat up stuff and even solder/weld but that's not as much fun.

Molten metal didn't stick
I used it to stir molten brass, bronze and copper and it all came out clean. Seems to be holding up ok

Perfect for making molds
My husband is into metal casting and also making molds. He's new to all of it but he says these are great for that. Graphite molds are used a lot in metal casting as they can be made with a lot of precision. These rods are great for smelting into molds and then cutting out the shape with a CNC machine.
