Every potter or hand builder needs one of these in their bag of tools. I don't use mine often, but when I need one its great to have. I like this one simply because of the handle on it. Many I have used before have a tiny handle and if you are anything like me, you have clay covered hands most of the time and that small handle slips easily. The larger handle just makes it easier to hold onto. That said, the smaller ones have their place as well. Recommended

This is a supercheap, low-quality tool. The plastic is about as cheap as you can go. Skeptical that it will hold up at all. The serrated edges are not very sharp as it is essentially a glorified cheese grater, except a cheese grater would be sturdier. It made a mess of the piece my wife was working on. (I'll attach a picture of one of my mugs in progress so you can see.) Most definitely not worth $10. Maybe $5.

This pottery shaving tool works well for me. I use it to trim my pots, especially at the beginning of the trimming process. It is sharp enough to remove excess clay, after which I use other tools for detailed work. The tool is easy to use, and the handle is comfortable to hold. I don’t use the included cleaning tool; I simply clean it with running water and sponges. Overall, it’s a very useful tool.

I’ve been wanting one of these to break down leather hard pieces into my reclaim bucket for the ones I don’t end up wanting to fire. Up until now I’ve just been trimming them on the wheel to destroy them. I've used this for both trimming and breaking down and it's been pretty handy to have. The ribbons are also super satisfying. I find it incredibly useful and easy to use.
