Beware! not good
Beware! This is not a good camera and owning it has been a poor experience. I have previously owned Pentax film cameras and thought this Pentax would be a good choice. It’s not.I purchased the camera to document our snorkeling experiences on our Costa Rica trip. I downloaded the full manual and read it twice and practiced with it before we left.I had trouble with the auto focus resulting in poorly focused photos. I settled on one setting that worked OK but was still a poor second to my 9-year-old IPhone. On our first dive I set up the camera for underwater shooting and used it for about 45 minutes, diving no deeper then 6 feet. I found it difficult to adjust settings or view the screen well. The camera added an weird green hue to the photos. I am posting one of the best of the not-very-good photos.I cleaned and dried the camera as directed, not opening it until the camera was dry. A few days later, I tried it again with pretty much the same disappointing results. The next day, the camera would not turn on at all. I removed the battery and found it was corroded. At that time, I also noticed the lens was fogged over on the inside from condensation.Unfortunately, I am out of the return window so now will need to find out if Pentax will honor the warranty. I will add a follow-up review pending their response.I wish I had purchased a Chinese underwater point-and-shoot camera at fraction of the price.

Not a bad waterproof camera
Not as good as the Ricoh WG Series, but they're no longer made. The camera is slower to react - shutter, zoom, etc. I was unable to find extra batteries and external charger, but perhaps they will be available in the future. Too bad that it doesn't take the same battery as the WG. The pictures that I took with the digital zoom were not great, and the mechanical zoom is only 4x. The camera is OK, but not great.

No.
Bought it to take on a cruise, the pictures were horrible. Ended up using the iPhone.

Focus
Difficulty focusing underwater and not very sharp above

The video is unusable due a terrible noise like a typewriter machine
The media could not be loaded. The picture is not great and the video is unusable because the camera makes a typewriter-like noise that is recorded on the video.

Pretty Disappointing
I'm a semi-pro photographer that bought one of these to try some underwater photography for the first time on my occasional trips to the islands.I wasn't expecting much but this one turned out to be a bad choice. I knew the sensor probably wouldn't be much better than a phone's, the close focusing distance is about a couple feet, and the inability to shoot RAW would be limiting, but something with better features would be at least $300 more. I went with the Pentax because I primarily used their cameras, lenses and gear for many years twenty years ago and had a lot of respect for the brand and their service back then. Given what I know now I should've bought the cheaper version of what appears to be the same camera under another brand name. I'm not sure who really makes this camera.Using this camera underwater is frustrating as the menus and parameter dialogues are small and difficult if not impossible to manipulate underwater with a mask on. It turns itself off after a short period of inactivity and sub-menu settings revert back to default as well which makes things worse. The biggest problem is that after only three underwater sessions on consecutive days, the coating on the front of the lens started coming off after rinsing with freshwater and gently cleaning with a microfiber lens cloth and lens cleaner. I didn't abuse or scratch it, it just started coming off starting from the center to the outside edges. Only three uses!Ricoh Pentax wouldn't give me any information, just referred me to their third part service center, who wouldn't return my call. Apparently they want you to pay to ship it (both ways), they will then determine if it's covered under warranty, and if you don't agree to the quote they will charge a "diagnostic fee". So for a $200 camera it's like not having a warranty at all.So I will try to remove what's remaining of the lens coating and see if this thing will still take a decent jpeg. Or I will throw it in the garbage.Disappointing that it appears you have to pay quite a bit more to get an acceptable entry-level underwater camera. My advice is to buck up the extra for something better or buy the cheapest version of this available and expect it to be disposable.
