Over the years my one owner 1999 4Runner SR5 has been a trooper but the last 7-8 years the tailgate does not full rise due to the hydraulic system failing. Did not want to buy the OEMs for the high price and opted to try these, which worked out great! They are much skinner in tube diameter but full lift the tail gate up like new.Most people are wondering about the baseline needs and I’ll note them here:-Easy to install-has all the parts to install-does not need special tools (but it helps to have a C ring/washer pliers)-lifts the gate up-one con is that it does not fully lift the gate when the back window is rolled down. I have not done it in a long time but I remember the OEM ones did. Not a big deal for myself.

Install was pretty straightforward. Stable and hold up the liftgate pretty well. Comes with the accessories for replacement of the original. Value is also affordable.

I installed the support struts, however, the struts didn't raise the tailgate fully open and one of them wobbled at the inner rod connection point. So I returned and purchased a different brand from another company.

Installation was easy, product feels robust. Was missing the rubber gaskets that prevent metal on metal contact between the strut and the door (mine disintegrated when I removed the old strut). Door opens at a standard speed most of the way when unlatched, but needs a slight push to get it into the fully open position. I don't have any accessories attached to the door and was hoping these would open the door faster and further without help.

These worked great on my 2000 4Runner. Lift gate works like new!

Does not fit 99 Toyota 4 runner .. you can modify it yourself, just have to bend the end to fit. Use some of the old hardware

Great fit on my 2000 Toyota 4Runner.

Direct replacement. Took 5 minutes to install on my 99 4Runner (3rd gen). Made a huge difference and lifts all the way up without any assistance now. Highly recommend. Gas tubes are not thin and brackets are solid build quality.
