As good as it gets
I had a 1960's era jigsaw that I inherited from my father, and it finally decided to quit. I figured if my next tool lasts even half this long, it's something I'm going to have a really long time, so picking a high-quality product I can live with over the long haul seemed sensible, and I turned to Bosch. I have several Bosch tools, and all are first-rate - this jigsaw is no different. The construction of this unit is pretty awesome. It's a bit larger close up than it looks in the picture, but at about 10 pounds, it's just the right size to handle well. I like that there are very few sharp edges on the tool, and everything just fits my smallish hands nicely. I also like that the tool-free blade design lets you get the right blade for the job with minimal fuss. The strong and solid footplate keeps the tool where you want it and is easy to adjust if you need to make bevel cuts. The jigsaw is variable speed, and there are various blade orbital settings to give you great control over the cut. The dial at the back of the jigsaw lets you set the upper limit speed, and then as you press the trigger, it goes from zero to whatever limit speed you've set. The motor is both powerful and low in vibration, and this is a big help in cutting through even thick and dense hardwoods. With the right blade, I find that the jigsaw just motors right through whatever I need to cut while leaving a nice smooth finish.I have the Bosch add-on circle cutting attachment...in my opinion, it should be included with the jigsaw. It works well and with the power of this jigsaw, it's pretty easy to cut nice smooth circles in most woods.Only two small complaints. One is that while there's a "chip blower" built into the tool, it's not possible to connect it to a dust extraction system without buying a few extra parts from Bosch...in my view, these should have been included with the saw. Issue number two is that I sometimes wish the jigsaw came with some sort of headlight so that I could see the exact spot where the blade is contacting the work. The Festool folks have something like this - but of course, their tools are way more expensive.Overall, this is an excellent tool that's capable of fine results and seems to be build well enough to stand up to demanding use for a very long time. It's probably a little more expensive than some of the alternatives, but it's definitely a case that you get what you pay for. Can't say enough good things about this jigsaw - if you need one, this Bosch should be on your short list to check out.

Best jigsaw hands down.
Best jigsaw around. We use ours at a commercial door company cutting steel all day. No jigsaw is going to last forever but these are tough and easy to use. The only thing I don't like for my application is the plastic foot. I make a steel one for all of ours and remove some material around the blade on the foot for visibility but not a hard modification.

What a Saw!
I have been using "Saber saws" Since they were invented in the 1950's, you know, the hand held, portable, reciprocating saws that replaced the bench top Jig saws of our grandpas. The ones now called "Jig saws"!I must say this Bosch saw was a real surprise for me. A little on the heavy side for a gentleman of 81 but no biggie. The added weight just makes it a bit more stable. Very low vibration from what I am used to for the past 60+ years handling this type of saw. I was a bit concerned about a saber/jig saw handling 2 inch thick material for some lawn furniture I am making. Ate it up like the proverbial hot knife through butter.Bosch got this one right. If you are going to be making saw dust for a few more years add this saw to your collection. I have collected quite a few tools in my time plus what my relatives and in-laws have willed me but this is one of my top possessions.

My first jig saw!
This is my very first electric saw, so read on if you are similarly inexperienced:Pros:1) It doesn't jump out of your hands the way that some of the cheaper ones do, at least according to the reviews. From my very first attempt, I was able to make precision cuts exactly where I wanted them. The unit held steady and didn't shake, so I wasn't afraid of cutting my hands off.2) Comes with a hard plastic case, including a separate area for the blades. Good if, like me, you don't have a dedicated tool area and you don't want your expensive new saw to get crushed/damaged/loaded with dust. The separate area for blades is key because it's extra protection from little hands or furry paws.3) Powerful! This thing cut through thick wood easily. No worries about burning out the motor.Cons:1) Cost2) The generic saw guide purchased from a big box store did not work with this saw because it has a different foot structure than some of the other saws out there.3) Other reviewers have noted that it doesn't have a laser light that previews where the cuts are going. That feature WOULD be nice and, for the top of the line saw, I agree that it should have this feature.

Awesome jig saw
I finally used this say to cut out hand slots on a scroll saw table I made.It cut through 3/8" plywood with ease, using a 10-tooth blade. I could cut effortlessly even on setting 1, although I found 2-3 (out of 10 max) to be the best range.I can't wait to try this on treated lumber....for which I bought this beast. The best jig saw I've used outside of a woodshop, and it rivals what you will find in most wood shops, I think

Cuts Like Butter
I wish I had this before working on my last project. Trying to use my old Craftsman was getting me terrible results with bads edges left after the cut. It had nothing to do with the blade being used and everything to do with the motion of the blade. I ordered this jigsaw that afternoon, it arrived in two days (Amazon Prime) and I was cutting again that evening. The fit, finish, and feel was excellent. The blades are secure and tooless which is very nice. As I started my first cut on a scrap piece I knew I had made the right choice. The cut was graceful, none of this rough movement through the wood and the cut was smooth only requiring a very slight sanding. The assortment of blades is great for wood and metal. But what I impressed with the most was how quiet and smooth the cutting action was. Clean and easy cuts with excellent visibility of the blade and material while making the cut. This is my second Bosch tool, the other the 1617EVSPK router, and they are both very impressive.
