Actually Works
It's very weird (gross even) to buy a product made with recycled diapers. But I planted new shrubs on a dry (in the summer) slope and needed something to keep them watered over time, and the rubber/vinyl fill ones empty out in a few hours so aren't good for a week's worth of water. Put these things in a 5 gallon bucket with water to soak, they got huge, and then put them down under some mulch and they seem to have done the trick, the baby lillacs made it through the summer.

Easy & Effective
I planted some dogwood trees on my property a couple of years ago. The trees in my backyard were doing great, while the one in my front yard was not. I thought the problem might have been not enough sun, but then it dawned on me that I wasn't watering it as often as the others because it was inconvenient to drag my hose to the front of the house. Steady spring was quick and easy to set up. After two weeks, I started to see overall improvement and new growth on the tree 🙌🏻 I like that it stores water from rain to give me a helping hand so that my tree isn't suffering when I'm being lazy or forgetful and that it will hold water from hose waterings longer and only release as needed. I will get some of these for the more robust trees when my budget allows.

Solid but with one caveat
These seem to be of good quality but they maybe don't hold as much water as expected. My partners also said that they only had water for about a week, and they advertise holding water for 2-3 weeks or more, except for in droughts and extreme heat.

Bought These Before From Other Seller
This isn’t my first time leaving a review for these rings. I agree they are expensive. But I have used these for about 4 years now. I really hate to see the negative reviews because they have worked so great for me.I have thirty acres that I have filled with pecans apples and various trees and shrubs. Just guessing i have maybe twenty or more of the tree rings and a few shrub rings for my blueberries. These do work. I use them in hard to grow areas until the roots are well established. I’ve only taken up two rings to resoak them. They say 1 to 3 hours. I disagree. I put mine in 5 gallon buckets (1per) and soak overnight and adjust them some during to get better saturation.I don’t bother with mulching. Just don’t have the time but they keep the weeds back.I say if you have a place in your yard that you just can’t get a new tree to live to try one of these like I did. It worked so is well I bought more.

Great at first but it didn't last very long
The product was excellent, keeping our tree well watered, but it started to fall apart over time (2 months). Eventually, we went down the route of getting a drip system for our trees. Would not recommend

Fantastic for new trees!
We planted two new maple trees in the summertime, which is not always the best time here in Alabama. However, we placed these around our trees. One tree was already struggling, but now thanks to some good rain and these bags it is coming back to life! We soaked them before hand, as recommended, and then we had a good hearty rain. The photos show what happened! They swell up and then release water just as described.

A Great Idea and Device But a Bit Pricey
I was a bit skeptical when I first unboxed the tree watering mat before I soaked it as I didn’t understand it as well as I thought that I did. Upon reading the instructions it all came together quickly.Once soaked and spread out as instructed the white beads absorbed much of the water in the bucket and operated as stated, a slow release of water from the tree mat over a very long period of time. The ground was always wet, because when it rained or any water from a hose or sprinkler would accumulate and be retained in the circular Tree Watering Mat and would be released slowly over time. Its clear that the tree mat is designed to work with mulch around and on top of the mat and it works beautifully. The mat was designed to be able to cover the root ball in a slow release which is what one really wants as opposed to a water bag that has a smaller foot print and releases water over the period of a day or two. I love that this mat is intended to be left outside year around even in the Minnesota Winters that we live with. I was very pleased to know that these mats have a rated life span of between 3-5 years. It still felt sort of fragile when it was being moved around. Before this I was a tree watering bag kind of guy and I was interested in these tree watering mats as an alternative. I found that I was watering my trees rather often as the watering bags seem to drain off at different rates from 6 hours to a couple of days and those were full bags. The bags ran dry at inconsistence rates and took more water than these tree watering mats. Not only that, but, the bag covering the bark on tree was of concern and an easy place for weeds to grows.I feel that the slow drip of the tree watering mats may be more like was I was looking for and when the water mat is hidden under some dark brown mulch its invisible and also serves as a weed barrier. I find it rather easy to provide such a simple and smart a solution Four Stars when things are stated so clearly and simply. The reason for the Four Stars and not Five Stars is the price, as this item has no moving parts and is made out of four different components if one counts the thread, it has very little R&D or technology involved. It’s a matter of price/performance.
