Well designed rod for it's designed purpose
I got my first feel of off-shore slow pitch jigging about 4 years ago on a 3 day charter to the dry Tortugas. A gentleman fishing next to me had this funny looking reel and off shore rod that didn't seem to look big enough for anything I planned on catching. During that trip he caught a monster African Pompano, several large snapper, and some nice grouper. At this point school was in session for me. Luckily he was a very nice individual and introduced me to the world of slow pitch. I share this story due to some statements you might see in other reviews about being too small. In the description the concept of slow pitch is stated well to help with those that might not understand how you are truly fighting the fish."The rods are not really used to haul the fish up out of the deep instead the rod is pointed down past a forty five degree angle and the reel is used to pull them up."With this being stated, sure you could snap the rod if using it incorrectly or laying it on the rail to fight a fish. The rod weight in slow pitch is really about coordinating the weight of your lure and how deep you are fishing. The physical weight of the rod is lightweight so you can work the slow pitch all day without getting too tired. The tip of this rod has good action for being able to pitch all day and ensure the slow pitch jig is working all the water column well. The handle of the rod is comfortable and the reel seat is solid with no issues so far. The butt of the rod has plenty of length for steadying the rod while you use the reel to fight the fish. Picking the correct slow pitch reel size to the size of the fish is where the fight is coming from. The rod feels good in the hand with my selected reel and I look forward to finding some nice grouper and if I am even luckier an African Pompano. If I experience any negative aspects in future trips, I will update this review accordingly. If you are looking for a nice price point rod to get into slow pitch jigging this is a decent option.

Nice rod for the price
I picked this rod up for fishing bridge pylons for sheepshead out of the kayak. The shorter length is nice for control and landing fish while on a kayak. The price looked good and after getting it and testing the rod, I can say it's worth the asking price. It's definitely a niche rod that isn't for every situation. The odd length isn't going to be what everyone is used to when using a casting rod but in the right situation it's great. The rod has a good backbone down at the bottom of the rod but it bends quite a bit at the tip and down to the middle part. The whole red part of the rod is the flexible part but it does still bend past that with a decent fish on. Not sure why they mention grouper and tuna in the description unless they're talking about very small species of those fish. It would struggle with anything bigger than a redfish, but for sheepshead it's great. I fish with up to 2 ozs of weight in some tides and the rod handles that no problem. The eyes are well made with ceramic inserts that are smooth and durable. No reel issues with the rod, just pay attention to the shorter length.
