Does not freeze
We can not get the machine to freeze the liquid enough. The consistency is as if you left frozen yogurt sitting out for 5-10 minutes. It’s very loose, not firm. So disappointed as I was hoping this would work. Now it is a wasted big expense.

Wow. Great Ice Cream in 18 minutes -- who knew???
The reviews seemed mixed on this, and this unit seemed a little small in the size of the amount of ice cream it could make. But, bought it, set it up, love it.I ordered some of the mixes that people mentioned, and while they were not bad, when I opened the included recipe book I then remembered that really Ice Cream is just milk + sugar + flavor. I mean if you can't mix that up, then go to the store and buy a pint. Made from "scrath" is just soooooooo much better.I also am not sure when I saw one or two uses that mentioned hard clean up or messes what they're talking about. You just run a couple of loads of water through this and then wipe it down. Done.I do wish it made a little more ice cream per batch, but since you can load it right up again and have a new batch in 18 minutes it really is fine in the end.My first home made creation was some mashed up strawberrys that I had on hand, milk + sugar and ... wow. Just amazing. The machine is a little big, it's not coffee maker sized, and it also is not the lightest thing in the world BUT it has its own compressor, none of that fooling around and freezing a container and churning for an hour, and it's great to have a pull-down handle to dispense your creation into a bowl -- or a waffle cone, which is probably sold at your local store. All in all, I'd order this again and again; I have a party this weekend and will be making this one of the stars! If you're hesitating -- don't. It is an easy to use machine.

Love It but It IS Noisy
We like this - the Nostalgia Soft Ice Cream Machine - and are glad we purchased it, however, as the other reviews said - this machine is very noisy. It's a table-top refrigeration unit so it's doing a lot of work and the fans and compressor make noise. It doesn't drive us out of the kitchen but you might not want this running while you were making ice cream for your guest or for a kid's birthday party. We were very happy with the ice cream it makes and we've used several recipes from other cook books and are happy with all the results.I purchased a refurbished unit and there were a couple of problems. The recipe book was missing and one of the bolts on the bottom - probably one holding the compressor - was different from the other bolts and had fallen off in shipment. I put it back on and tightened the other bolts and everything works fine. This didn't give me a lot of confidence in whatever repair was originally done to it but everything worked out well - I wouldn't buy it this way if you aren't comfortable with a wrench and with minor repairs.

Rarely stiff enough.
First when I went to the reviews they were for a different ice cream maker. We need to run ours for at least 25 minutes (instructions says 15 minutes) to make the product stiff enough to build the soft serve high enough it call it a success. Even then not as high as you see in the picture. My daughter loves it though. So it meets our needs. Using 3 cups of half and half with 3/4 cups of the vanilla soft serve mix. I would like it to work better and have more capacity, so I would recommend spending a little more and getting a different machine.

Terrible consistency!
This machine does not make anything close to creamy soft serve. I have tried recipes from the book, Williams-Sonoma mixes, commercial soft serve mixes with all different experiments in proportions. It only comes out like a milkshake and sometimes as thick as a Wendy’s Frosty. In order to get it even close to be able to be on a cone, you have to add water to get it to freeze firm enough, and then it just tastes like granular ice milk. Total and complete waste of money and effort trying to get it right. Do not buy.

Delicious and easy to use
It’s the best machine. Anytime we want ice cream all I have to do is mix my ice cream mix together and pour in. The machine does all the work. Loving it

Underwhelming, doesn’t get cold enough
So far it’s been used twice - soft serve and pina colada, made exactly as directed - and to say the end result is not worth it would be an understatement. Soft serve has more of a “frosty” texture than actual soft serve, and the pina colada mix turned into a liquidy milkshake texture. Something else to note, it’s quite loud. To point you can’t have a conversation around it or you end up yelling.
