A new way to learn
This is a unique approach - and it’s quite engaging. The story isn’t dumbed down, so adult learners new to French can feel confident while reading and learning new vocabulary.

Interesting Storyline
I’m enjoying this book for beginners. I can follow the storyline pretty well and it is expanding my French learning experience. The audio that goes with the story enhances my learning.

Excellent for Beginners!
This is a great way to start with French, especially for English speakers, as at the end of every chapter you have the same chapter but in parallel text with the English equivalent! Also, the chapters' content is family-friendly, does not contain bad words, and can be easily understood by kids. Each chapter starts with an illustration too!

Exploring French Through Storytelling
"Learn French With Short Stories" provides an unconventional yet stimulating approach to language learning through engaging narratives. While it requires a basic understanding of French and may necessitate repeated revisits for optimal comprehension, the incorporation of storytelling adds depth and enjoyment to the learning process. Despite presenting challenges for beginners and slightly surpassing the proficiency level of some learners, this resource offers a valuable opportunity for language development and fluency enhancement.I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Great Way to Learn
This will not be your usual book review since the goal of the book isn’t to tell an entertaining story but to teach a language. It is accomplished through a story that covers multiple situations that a person could encounter in life. The book is well done, and I learned a lot. I am an advanced beginner and I found it had just the right mix of material I already knew and that I didn’t. As opposed to the online language course I’m taking (which I like), the format of the book allowed me to see the language in context and in everyday use. I learned new vocabulary and how to use it. I learned how to use vocabulary I already knew. I learned about grammar and punctuation without having a grammar lesson. I learned about French traditions and the way the French live. Each chapter follows the same format. The entire chapter is written in French (with some vocabulary words included as needed). Next there are questions to test your comprehension. Finally, each paragraph of the chapter is written side-by-side in French and English. Each chapter gets progressively harder but never prohibitively so.If you force yourself to read the French section without looking at the side-by-side portion, you will get the most out of the book. It will be hard to force yourself to do this – it took me a few chapters to get the swing of it. But I found that I got the general gist when reading the French (and that I could understand more than I thought I would even though I didn’t understand every word, the tense of every word, or all of the colloquial phrases). Then I went slowly and carefully through the side-by-side section, making sure that I understood each sentence and why it was constructed in the manner it was.You can’t go wrong with this book (or any of their other products).Update (4/7/24): I realized that I didn’t add any photos of the book. I have included two. (Warning, they are not professional in the least!!)The first photo is the “French only” version of the beginning of a chapter. You will notice highlighted words. The highlighted words are defined in a list following that section of text. The second picture is a parallel version of the same part of the story. In the parallel version, you see the French text along side of the English translation. This is helpful to me in two major ways. First, if I become so stuck in the French only version that I can’t progress in the story, I take a quick peek at the translation to get back on track. Second, when I am done with the French only version, I carefully read through the parallel text line by line. I try to translate it myself and then I compare it to the English translation. Sometimes I find the translation is literal; the English is exactly what you would expect. Other times the English isn’t exactly the same because either the French grammar translates more to an English phrase/construct or because it’s a French phrase/construct that doesn’t occur in English.I have learned more from this book (and the 2nd one, which I’m almost done with) than from the years I’ve spent on an online application brushing up (and advancing from) my high school and college classes. The online application gave me the basics I needed for the books but the books have tied everything together more than I could have imagined.I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This book is truly worth the hype!
This book is truly worth the hype! It is well-written and an extremely effective way to study French. In addition, the sound files (and a digital version of the book) are provided for free!! If you are serious about learning French in a "fun and interesting" manner, begin here! (I should also mention that the customer service provided on the book's website is extremely fast and friendly!) As I stated earlier, "this book is truly worth the hype". I will definitely purchase the other titles in the series as I continue on my journey to "acquire" French.
