Nothing Like the Pain… or the Comeback!
Lynn Painter’s Nothing Like the Movies takes readers on an emotional rollercoaster, bringing back Liz and Wes from Better Than the Movies—only this time, they’re not together. I was devastated to find out about their breakup and the painful circumstances that led to it. The chemistry that made them so perfect in the first book was still there, but this time, it was overshadowed by heartbreak, regret, and growth. Watching Wes fight to win Liz back was both swoon-worthy and agonizing, and I was completely on board for it.The character development in this sequel was astonishing. Both Liz and Wes had to face their own issues, making them feel even more real and relatable. Liz, once the hopeless romantic who dreamed of grand love stories, was now more guarded, and Wes, who was always the easygoing and confident guy, was forced to confront his mistakes and fight for what he wanted. Their journey was full of tension, longing, and bittersweet moments that made my heart ache and root for them even harder. Now, let’s talk about the audiobook. The dual narration by Charlie Bushnell and Jesse Vilinsky was absolutely fantastic. Having both perspectives brought so much depth to the story, making it feel even more immersive. Bushnell captured Wes’s determination and regret so well, while Vilinsky perfectly portrayed Liz’s heartbreak and hesitant hope. Their performances added an extra layer of emotion, making the highs even sweeter and the lows even more gut-wrenching.Overall, Nothing Like the Movies was an emotional yet satisfying follow-up. While it hurt to see Wes and Liz go through so much, it made their love story feel even more real. If you loved Better Than the Movies, this sequel is a must-listen—just be prepared for all the feels!

LYNN PAINTER MURDERS ME
I could not sleep until I finished this book. I tried and I just ended up dreaming about Wes and Liz. If you loved them the first time around then you’ll probably be feral like me this time. They’re older, they’re wider. Wes’ journey will make you cry. You’ll be rooting for them the whole time.

It was cute but better than the movies is better
3/5 StarsNothing Like the Movies was a fun read, and I really liked the characters! They were charming and relatable, and their chemistry definitely kept me invested. The witty banter and sweet moments between them were some of my favorite parts of the book. That said, the overall plot felt a little predictable, and there were times when the pacing dragged. I was waiting for a big emotional payoff or twist, but it didn’t quite deliver. It’s still a cute story, though, and the characters made it worth reading. If you’re looking for something light and feel-good, this is a solid choice, even if it’s not super groundbreaking.

"I exist to exist alongside you." ~Wes
I don’t know how I’m supposed to live now without Liz and Wes in my life, but I can tell you one thing: If they don’t make these two books into movies, I will riot.I’ve been doing a lot of buddy reading with my sister (highly recommend!), and I stumbled upon *Better Than the Movies* on Amazon. Honestly, I’m thrilled I took a chance on this duet; I was committed to reading only stand-alone books before starting the first one.Seriously, I’m obsessed with this story. I did my best to fit in reading time in between work, buying new furniture, and writing my current novel, but this book was always there, tapping me on the shoulder and telling me to get on with it, so I did.And now?Well, it’s 5:45 a.m., I need to get in the shower for work, and I’m sobbing like a baby on my soon-to-be-donated couch (because a new one will be here on Friday). So, this couch we’ve had for years and has seen us through so much just experienced the last book I’ll read on it and that alone is making me cry even harder. It’s a bit sappy, I know, but here’s the thing: Sometimes, sappy is the best we can hope for, and with that, I’ll suggest that anyone and everyone read these two books and experience them in the sappiest (happiest) way possible.Truthfully, the world is a little brighter for me today, with this story forever a part of me, and I want the author to know this.Thanks. (I mean it. Thank you.)Gah! Now I need to read everything else Lynn Painter has ever written. I'm a fan for life.
