Brentwood KT-1506S 20 Ounce Dual Voltage 110-240v Stainless Steel Electric Travel Kettle

I’m always looking for that perfect niche item that answers a need I have. In this case I wanted a portable water heater/boiler that could support dual voltage and was constructed out of something durable like stainless steel.Fist off, there is only review on Amazon at the time I write, and it mentions that the walls of the heater get very hot. Every water heater has walls that get very hot, that’s why they have handles, you are boiling water. I cannot think of a single heater I have used in my life that recommended you handle it by the sides.I previously owned a smaller heater made by Kenwood that used a small ceramic disc at the bottom of a plastic enclosure, but recently that disc began to degrade and I started seeing small particles in my water. Threw that heater out and started the search anew when I came across this product.I love the construction, with solid stainless steel walls and neat features like a manual cord reel built into the base. The collapsible handle is a gimmick in that it doesn’t significantly change the diameter of the heater when opened or closed, but it works and I can’t knock it too much since it serves its intended purpose.There are markings stamped into the steel wall that clearly show the minimum and maximum water levels the heater can hold. The On/Off switch is intuitive and located where your thumb would be while holding the handle. There is a small circular light at the base that shows when the heater is in operation. The plug is solid, and has a grounding pole for safety.The plug has the reel feature I described earlier, with a finger grip on the very bottom you use to slowly twist the cord back into the base. You have to work the cord in and out a few times to get the heavy gauge wire to adapt to the wheel, after that it’s a snap to twist the cord back into the base. It’s a nice little addition and it works.The cord is not very long, as a previous reviewer mentioned, but it is more than long enough for the size. It’s recommended that you unplug the heater before pouring, and that’s just a safety precaution to prevent spills that might reach the base while plugged in. Like any device in your kitchen that uses electricity, better safe than sorry when water is involved.The lid is a combination of stainless steel interior with a silicone gasket, and a top made of the same durable thermoplastic as the handle and base so you can safely remove it without burning your fingers. The lid stays on securely when operating and when pouring, and is easy to clean if needed. You can only boil water in this, no other liquid is recommended.The dual voltage switch is a simple flat-head adjustment to prevent accidental switching. Just twist the indicator to the correct voltage for the region you’re visiting and you are good to go. These types of voltage switches are robust, and highly unlikely to fail.I love this heater, have used it for over 50 boils so fair, and am impressed by its simplicity and robust construction. It has enough safety features, but not so many that they become gimmicky. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for an easy to use, easy to transport, water heating tool for people who travel frequently but like to have hot water readily available.

Overall this is a very well designed travel kettle and does exactly what I need it to do, which is boil water for when I travel for work. The kettle is very light and easily fits in my hand. I've used it multiple times now and I've been very pleased with it. The lid is actually stainless with a rubber gasket that holds it in place. When pouring water the lid doesn't move. The outside/top of the lid is plastic with a little handle so you can grip it without getting burned. Same with the bottom of the kettle. The handle has a solid feeling spring mechanism that keep the handle folded in or pulled out. It doesn't at all feel like it would collapse while using it and easily picks up the kettle when full. The auto shut off mechanism works as it is supposed to and shuts off once the water is boiling. I confirmed the temperature with a thermometer. The switch is in the handle and is ergonomically placed for your thumb to hit it on. The light on the front turns blue while it's on and is easily seen. If you need to heat the water back up you flip the switch on again. Overall the kettle heats up water very quickly (2-3 minutes when full with room temp water). The inside of the kettle has a minimum line and a 0.6L maximum line. Same as the lid the main kettle body is stainless. There is a little hand hold at the bottom so you can retract the power cord back in so it's all nicely packaged together. I considered a "cordless" kettle in which the pot detaches from the base but I figured that was something else to lose and I'm fine with it being all one unit. My 1.7L kettle at home has a detachable base but I wouldn't want to travel with it.There are a few small cons. The most noticeable is the cord which is incredibly short at 16in/40cm. The desk in the hotel room fortunately has a plug built in that reaches but it's been obnoxious to use at work. The cord is also flat and after several uses I noticed the edge starting to slightly get torn from rubbing on the opening where it coils into the base. Since the very bottom is what spins if you have the kettle sitting on something (like a counter) it is very hard to pull the cord out as the very bottom tries to rotate so you need to pick up the kettle to get the cord out. After a few times the cord moves in and out fairly easily but can still be a little stiff (which the directions noted would happen). I finally disassembled the bottom and put a 5' round cable in so it's more functional. It doesn't really retract anymore (besides a few inches) but I just wrap it around the kettle and use a velcro strap to hold it together. Small thing I wish it had was a window that showed the water level from the outside but since I tend to use this for single cups of tea (or tea and sometimes a ramen) I don't really keep water sitting in it. I haven't tried the dual voltage function but since this is from a real brand (and not a mystery Chinese knockoff company on Amazon) that I can find on other websites I expect it to actually work. The switch is hidden under the handle and it is a little hard to get to and turn but I don't expect to be changing it often. When the kettle first arrived it was set to 240 volts and since I'm in the US it wasn't really working. Fortunately I figured it out and it didn't fry anything since it was getting less voltage instead of more. I can still see taking this when I travel internationally even though kettles are more prevalent overseas than in the US. Since it is dual voltage I only need a simple plug adapter for overseas.I spent hours researching a travel kettle so I could make tea at hotels and at work that doesn't taste like coffee (with hot enough water). Overall this is a well designed solid little travel kettle. I have used this everyday multiples for over a week and have been very happy with it and would definitely get another one.

Small. Broke very quickly.

Pro: The BRENTWOOD KT-1506S kittle has a compact size, dual power(perfect for international travel), a stainless steel body, and a stainless steel lid with a silicon gasket. No bad plastic smell as buyers experienced from other brands, such as Elite Gourmet EKT719 (which has a plastic lid).Con: 1. The stainless steel body gets very hot, so it is dangerous to touch. 2. The voltage return dial is hard to reach with a screwdriver because the handle is blocked. The design was not user-friendly for these 2 cons.I still chose this one because of the stainless steel lid and no bad plastic smell, although I paid 4 dollars more for this one.

Works great, and perfect size. I only wish that the kettle could disconnect from the base, or it have a longer cord to make it easier to pour.

Good product for traveling to Europian countries

The one thing I love is how small it is! I actually bought this for kitchen use, not traveling. I have minimal counter space so this works great bc it is small. However, it is annoying that you have to unplug to pour it. Other reviews mentioned it and I didn’t listen lol. I also don’t love that the stainless part gets so hot- couldn’t they have made it double wall stainless so it’s not hot on the outside?

When I first got it, I thought it was super slow to heat the water to a boil...but that was my mistake, it came set to 240, you need to just flip the switch to 120...I don't read instructions LOL, so after I found that switch, it boils water fast! It's a champ!
