Playstation is pushing boundaries, all right.
After waiting for TWO YEARS to get a ps5 for list price (and only then thanks to Amazon fixing the scalper problem with the invite system--were you watching sony?) I can honestly say I am disappointed to say the least.I have been playing video games since before there was such a thing (it was called pinball), so I know a little about the history as well as how games are made and how they work.In days gone by advertisements killed at least one game (and the company dumb enough to add them to their game). Today sony puts them RIGHT ON THE HOME PAGE and no one bats an eye. All people seem to care about are the graphics, which are pretty nice but I'm more interested in the mechanics. After all, the mechanics are what make a game (or console) work, and the ps5 is a major fail here. As are most of the games they provide for play.First of all, they STILL expect us to use a controller that is TOO SMALL for an adult hand. This is nightmare number one.Second, the home screen is a NIGHTMARE to navigate (in part due to the ads). The PS4 was better and that is sad, as things are SUPPOSED to get better with technology. However, they seem to want to make things better for them, just not for the people who pay them.Every game has a boot process rather than just getting me to the main menu. They seem to have to show me so many things that I don't want or need to see when I start a game. The worst offenders add noise before they check my settings and blow me out of the room in the process as there is no volume setting on the console itself--go figure. As I write this review I am waiting for a disc to copy. This process on ths ps5 is another NIGHTMARE. The game I am currently copying says it will take 8 HOURS to copy 85GB. On top of that, it will only download, or even work on, ONE thing at a time. And these are only the beginnings of the issues with the disc drive. It is SLOooooooow to respond to anything, gets things wrong (it highlights my ps4 version when I have a free ps5 update) etc. Again, the PS4 was better. And the games are no better either. There is STILL no kind of consistency in controller layout from game to game--even within franchises. Game 1 button layout is totally different from Game 2 even though they are made by the same "developer god" company and are essentially the same game. This is insane. sony should set some guidelines for developers. But I doubt they care, because they treat players more and more like addicts even though addiction to games is low. Just another case of Minority rules.Things to look for on the ps6 are: More ads. Probably in game ads as well. NO DISC (they are tired of that antiquated device as it doesn't make them as much money) and an even worse user experience. I doubt I'll even look at the ps6 as I believe I will be going back to my PC for my gaming.
