Best budget-to-mid IEMs for competitive gaming — incredible value for Valorant
Best budget-to-mid IEMs for competitive gaming — incredible value for ValorantTo preface: I am not an audiophile — I just needed a reliable pair of IEMs for competitive gaming, specifically Valorant. After testing 5 of the top-rated IEMs across multiple budget ranges, these absolutely blew everything else out of the water.Sound Quality & Performance:I genuinely cannot tell the difference in soundstage, clarity, or spatial awareness between the Truthear Hexa and my Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pros. The directional audio is incredibly accurate, which is crucial for a game like Valorant where every footstep and reload matters. These also avoid the excessive bass that can muddy details — the balance is tuned perfectly for gaming.Comfort & Fit:This was the biggest surprise for me. I have very small ear canals and typically can't wear in-ear headphones at all — they either fall out or hurt within minutes. The Hexa includes multiple tip options, including memory foam ear tips, and they’ve been a game-changer. I wore them for 5+ hour sessions with zero discomfort or slippage. The foam tips also offer passive noise cancellation, which gave me the isolation I needed without the heat buildup I get from over-ear headsets like the DT 990s.Design:The only thing I’d change is the aesthetic — black is fine, but I wish these came in other colors or materials. That said, the build quality is solid and sleek, and it’s a minor gripe for an otherwise flawless experience.Final Verdict:If you're looking for high-performance IEMs for FPS gaming without breaking the bank, the Truthear Hexa are the best you’ll find. They punch way above their price point and are now my daily go-to for Valorant. Comfortable, detailed, and competitive-grade — a clear 5-star product.✅ This review is based on real-world, side-by-side testing to help other competitive gamers make an informed choice.

Truthear Hexa Review
The Truthear Hexa are a really good, well-balanced, and versatile pair of IEMs with a relatively neutral tuning. Personally, I would recommend the cheaper Tangzu Wan’er before the Hexa as an ideal first pair of IEMs. But if you want a versatile pair of IEMs that is comfortable to wear, is superbly tuned for any genre of music, gaming, or watching videos, and delivers outstanding performance for the price, I think the Hexa deserves a place in your collection. Also, I really appreciate the generous selection of ear tips included with the Hexa.A note regarding ear tips:For this pair, I would strongly recommend the Spinfit Omni ear tips for a significant upgrade in fidelity. Just make sure you find ear tips that fit well and create a strong seal within your ear canal, and you should notice a massive improvement in the detail and bass response. The Spinfit W1 are also great ear tips that largely provide the same benefits as the Omni, but I found them to cause too much protrusion from the ear canal when placed over the Hexa’s nozzle. For my ears, the Omni size L fit perfectly, but I couldn’t get the size M to fit over the Hexa’s nozzle. To summarize, the Spinfit Omni and W1 are both great, but the fit is going to depend on the nozzle size of your IEMs. I like the Omni (size L) for my Hexa and the W1 for my Tangzu Wan’er. I think a small collection of quality ear tips is worth the investment if you enjoy collecting and experimenting with IEMs and want to maximize performance from each.

Impressive Sound for the Price – A Musician’s Perspective
These are good! While I don’t have extensive experience with IEMs, I’ve spent many years as a recording musician and know what a well-balanced monitor should sound like — and the Truthear Hexa delivers. The Hexa has a very musical and cohesive tuning with a pleasing blend of lows, mids, and highs. The bass is controlled and present, never bloated or overwhelming. There's a tasteful sub-bass lift that adds depth without muddying the mix. What really stands out to me is the midrange. Compared to my Moondrop CHU II, which has more of a scooped character, the Hexa offers more natural, full-sounding mids that bring out the richness in rock and acoustic tracks beautifully. The treble is detailed and clear — acoustic guitars, for instance, sound stunning. That said, on certain tracks, especially those with bright hi-hats, the highs can come across a touch hot, though never harsh. If you're after a fun, bass-heavy IEM for genres like reggae or funk, the Hexa might not fully deliver out of the box. That said, a slight EQ bump — I add just +1dB at 60Hz — brings out enough low-end punch to make them work well. Their more neutral, reference-style tuning prioritizes accuracy over impact. But for listeners who value balance and detail, especially in vocal-driven rock or acoustic music, the Hexa truly shines. They can rock! The Hexa fits my ear well, they are light weight and very comfortable and they are well made.I hope this helps.
