I am using the shaft of a footlong aircraft drill to make a part for an antique firearm.This drill bit is .272" wide a little bit wider than 1/4" or . 250.The bit is in a fixture that uses drill bushings to guide my drill.I am drilling by hand to prevent the cracking or overheating of my very hard tempered drill.It took 45 minutes of turning by hand, applying light pressure, constantly pulling the drill from the hole to clean the point and the hole of chips and to add more oil.The result is a skinny drill drilling through the shaft of a fat drill, and I was able to put the bit back in the pack because it showed no sign of wear.

Bought a package of these in 4.5mm for a project. I abused the bit and it kept on drilling. Deep holes in 3/4 mild steel. I think I will buy more of these in fractional sizes.
