Great for heavy chewers!
We have an 80 pound pitbull and a 70 pound shepherd, and the pit is a heavy chewer (no surprise!!). When they are home alone, the pit is in a crate, and because he has so much energy, he would rip up his bed if he didn't have something to chew on. We have had this Souper size bone for 3 months now, along with a few other Nylabones that we circulate to keep the dogs interested. We always let them choose which of the 4 that they want for the day, and for the longest time, the pitbull wasn't super keen on this one... that is until he realized that it was textured! That's when this one started becoming his favorite. Our Shephard also chews, but not as roughly or as frequently. As you can see from the pictures, our pit might only have one or two weeks left on this particular Nylabone, and even though we have three others, I think I will be repurchasing this one or trying out an equally textured bone to keep him busy.Originally, I was a bit worried with these in general, because as the dogs would chew, they would get smaller and smaller. Instead of immediately jumping to conclusions as some owners do, I did my research on how to upkeep these bones and ensure the safety of my dogs. What I have found from the company is that as long as the bones are being chewed into small plastic shavings, your dog should be okay to digest the plastic flakes without concern. It is also crucial to make sure that these bones remain a size that is still not "swallow-able." Once this one gets to a certain point, it will be replaced. These are great for dental upkeep, and is much like brushing their teeth. The vet says both dogs have beautiful teeth! Some people probably think that they get gross after a while, and that is true. Hair gets stuck in the small spikes on the toy, so what I do is just grab some dishwashing soap and a dish brush that I use only for the pet bowls and just scrub the bejeezus out of these things. It doesn't get all the hair out, but it helps. Another reviewer said they clip off the sharper pieces every once in a while. I do this too, after I clean them. It gives them a fresh canvas, and since some owners are concerned about their dogs gums, it might give them some piece of mind. But I will tell you, if your dog is a chewer, they won't care about their gums.Great product, will continue to buy!

Tough for heavy chewers
I do not usually by bones that are not real, or rawhide in general. However, I adopted a terrier mix dog and she is small but her jaws are mighty. She rips through the toughest bones / antlers (deer and elk) / rawhide / and her best loved bully sticks. They used to last a while, but now she is just over a year old and it was getting so expensive to keep buying pricey ones to keep her from chewing my table legs and other items.Just as a side note, to keep your pooch from chewing your furniture, put a small amount (smear) of Vicks vapor rub (generic brand will do) on the various items and that does stop the temptation.I keep a supply of all sorts of chewing things about to help with the issue, these were bought months ago and they show barely a dent... chewed up marks on ends, but overall still intact.Sadly, can never buy stuffed animal versions again with squeakers, they are so cute, but she is determined to rip out them apart in no time.If you have a active chewer also, one of the best brands for other toys is Kong (ball and other toy versions). I find they have the toughest rubber and still have some that squeak. Almost invincible as well, Thank you for all your reviews, I rely on them.

CAUTION! May cause dental fractures
Both of our dogs love these bones, especially the Bacon Cheeseburger. Unfortunately, the oldest now needs to have two molars extracted due to fractures. We noticed that she had stopped chewing on the Nylabones and on examination discovered her upper molar had a vertical fracture which went the whole way up into the root. Our vet says the tooth cannot be saved and the opposite molar is also fractured although not as badly. He said during seminars, other vets described similar issues. For that reason, he recommended immediately taking the bones away from both dogs. Even though the bones are very durable and a favorite chew toy, they have proven to be a very expensive purchase for us given the upcoming vet appointments. Even worse, is the pain which Bella will need to endure. Her gum line will be cut open to expose the roots of the fractured teeth, the teeth extracted, and her gums stitched together to close the incisions. Her teeth were previously in good shape, although she did have some tartar buildup. We were pleased that the Nylabones did a great job at removing the tartar and polishing her teeth. Little did we know that she was applying enough pressure to fracture her molars. Amazon was great about accepting the return of our most recent unopened package. From now on, we will never purchase toys that are listed as for EXTREME Chewing Style.

does the job
I have a 60lb American pitbull who is a pretty heavy chewer, and this definitely helped him get some energy out. He usually prefers softer toys, but I gave the X-LARGE nylabone to him yesterday and he went to town! It seems like it will last a while, and hopefully it will keep him from destroying his rope and stuffed toys for a couple days... I like that it doesn't have a smell like bones and horns do.

Would not recommend
Not a fan of this product. I read the very mixed reviews and still ordered it out of hope. My 9 month old GSD managed to chew off little pieces quickly and I noticed a chipped tooth. She did not have it prior to getting this bone and it was all she was chewing on during the time period.

I bought this because my puppy (7 month old Great Pyrenees/Border Collie mix) is eating up my house and needs something to chew on. He likes rawhide and I was looking for a safer alternative that would last longer. Spent all the money for this item and he won't touch it. Occasionally, he will pick it up and move it and try to chew on it and then decides he doesn't like it. It is very hard plastic with not much give and I obviously didn't taste it myself, but I have smelled it and I cannot smell any kind of flavor. If he chews it, he doesn't chew it long. Waste of money for us since he doesn't like it at all.

Now my dogs chew of choice.
This has now had several weeks to prove itself either a popular choice or just a novelty. These pictures were taken just now and it is as popular now as when first unwrapped.I have two 30kg dogs, both avid chewers. Their normal toys of choice were antlers (the huge £30+ size) and fresh marrowbones from Morrisons. The introduction of this and the nylabone 'antler' have made everything else obsolete ...at least for now. There is some wear showing but nothing to be bothered by. At this rate it'll last the best part of a year. The flavour seems to keep them coming back to it. I read reviews from several idiots saying there was no taste or smell. I'm aware that my sense of taste and especially smell aren't on a par with a dog's. That I can hide it and they'll sniff it out tells me it has scent even if I can't smell it. As for taste, well something keeps them coming back and as they have toys of like texture so flavour is implied.

Good for chew monsters
George my cocker spaniel chews EVERYTHING apart from his extreme Kong this has lasted ! Has some teeth marks but still intact and this is the dog that has torn apart ruff to tuff toys that boast for extreme chewers! Just need a nylaBed to be brought out next as we've gone through 6 in a year. !

Probably the best customer :-)
I think we have bought all the flavours and different ones now, our 2 dogue de Bordeaux love them. Shame we need to buy 2 at a time and only last a few months.Great though keeps them amused for the few hours a day they are not asleep

Hasn't lasted as well as I hoped
Definitely a welcome chew option for our Pup, but a bit disappointed with the wear and tear. He is 17kg and a powerful chewer, (within the product reccommendations) but he also has several "chews" on the go at any one time and this one is really showing the strain at each end after a couple of weeks of chewing. Maybe he is a particularly powerful chewer 😬😂

Not as tough as expected
Nylabone arrived this afternoon. Photos show what a band new beef & cheese bone looked like after our spaniel had it for only 2 hours! As a bone for extreme chewers I had expected it to last much longer. We have another nylon bone by another brand and it’s no where near this chewed after 5 months! Given 2 stars because our dog does like the taste and is interested in it. If your dog really is an extreme chewer like ours, I would say make your pennies work for you and try another brand. Hope this helps! L
