Terrific night Light
When my wife was fighting cancer I needed to check oh her several times a night. When you use red light it does not disturb the sleeping person. That’s great as she needed her sleep. That was fantastic. I imagine it works the same way with children. Now I use it in my frequent trips to the rest room. The red light does not disturb my sleep cycle. The light has two red settings, low and high. Enough for me. The only thing I don’t care for is that it rolls like crazy off the bedside table if not totally flat the light starts to roll off at a surprising speed. To negate that I place it on the stand slowly. That works Enjoy

OK but could be less bright
The first one that came did not work out of the box.Amazon replacement to the rescue! The second one that came works well. There are two power settings, the first is very bright and might be useful for roadside emergencies, but for the astronomer it is excessive. The second brightness level is ok. It would be better, for the astronomer, if the brightest level could be replaced with a fainter one.I don't know how long the batteries will last, but I don't see why that should be an issue. But mind you, I'm writing this review the day the item came.

My best red flashlight out of a string of six or so
Excellent light for getting around in the dark. I bought a lanyard for hands free operation around my camera and tripod. The light focuses down and does not spread all over the place. Yes it is bright to read a planisphere. Yes the ring is flimsy and mine broke in a couple of weeks. The device was turned off and fell on gravel but still works fine. The green glow helped locate it in the dark. The ring easy to replace with one of the thin rings that car repair places tag your keys with. The two intensities let you select what you need for a task. A weaker third intensity would be even better. Battery life seems good. Currently my favorite red flashlight. I bought another for a backup;. Ended a quest for a lightweight, well made, dependable red flashlight. Like other Carson stuff, a good product. Like to give 5 stars but the ring is a problem. Buyer should immediately replace ring - you don't want to have it drop off on a hike. Husky carabiner gives a false sense of security.

Star Gazing light!
I bought this because it is keychain style, light but still with a good grip (rubber type surface of barrel), and it has two brightness settings. I've found that most small red flashlights are either one mode or with a multi mode that includes a strobe feature. While the blinking feature can be beneficial for an emergency, to be honest, if I was in an emergency, I would use the white light flashlight I also brought with me. So, I don't see myself ever relying on strobe from a red light for emergencies. And the issue with those that do have a strobe mode is that you have to cycle through the modes, it is rarely a separate setting. Do you know how annoying that is when every time you want to go to a brighter mode that it first does this strobe thing before it gets to the higher lighting? Or the others where it is just one solid light and then strobe. So you always have to go through the strobe mode to cycle it to the point to shut it off. However, this flashlight provides two lighting modes - low and high. That's it. As an astronomer, this is very helpful. I use the low mode for reading star charts and fussing with my telescope. Then the high mode when I am packing up for the night (so I can pack more quickly) but don't ruin the night vision of the astronomers still out in the field. It's a really good flashlight and I'm impressed.

Unreliable - keep on clicking and maybe it will turn on
Sometimes it works but most of the time it won’t turn on. The green rubber like casing also slides so I can’t get a good grip. Overall terrible flashlight. Zero stars.

Does what the headline claims for not much money? What's not to like?
This thing makes two levels of "red light". It's inexpensive. It works. I'm sure the construction could be better, but that's nit-picking at an "under ten dollar" price. You can use it to reliably preserve your night vision. My only "peeve".If it's off, the first press gives you "brighter", the next press gives you "dimmer". This sequence is really backwards, since the whole point of this light is to not mess up your "dark adaptation". If "dimmer" is sufficient, why force you to use "brighter" first? The only time this would be an issue is if you start with the light right next to a "mostly whtite" chart you are trying to read. The "brighter" reflected light may be too strong. Otherwise, the "brighter" red light is not a problem. I haven't used it for star charts yet, so this is mostly a guess.

Size and brightness
I went to a star party recently. Nice dark site.Light worked great for couple hours. It started blinking at when I turned it on. I’m disappointed. It was perfect until it wasn’t.

Replacement worked great.
Original unit didn't work. Amazon immediately sent a replacement. Worked perfectly. Two light levels - one bright for distance; one dim for working on my camera at night.Like the glowing case. Easy to find in the dark.

Glow in dark red light for night photography
Good light for the price. Like the glow in the dark. I found the red light not too bright which would affect adjusting to dark spots or affect the lighting for outings with other photographers.

It doesn’t work.
It requires 3 AAA batteries, which don’t come with it. When I finally got the batteries I found that it doesn’t work
